Why AI is a house of cards: 1. You pay $200 a year for an AI app (like Cursor). 2. Cursor pays OpenAI $500 for API tokens ($300 of which is VC funding). 3. OpenAI pays AWS $1000 for compute ($500 of which is VC funding). 4. $AWS pays $10k for $nvda GPUs. See the problem?

@hirschibar @dhh I tried hard to like the MX Master 3S mouse, but felt that it completely sacrificed speed/precision for comfort and premium scroll wheels. Its 90-125hz polling rate should be fine for day to day use, in theory, but it always felt like 15hz subjectively. Went back to superlights.

I always wanted to love the NuPhy Air75, but found the actual typing experience tinny and clacky. Just got the V3 in, and it's 98% as good as my beloved Lofree Flow84! They copy'pasted the look, the feel, and almost all of the thock. And it has a 2.4ghz dongle! Nice.

@theo Most likely, still GPU coil whine. The majority of GPUs have it quite loud. A minority is relatively quiet (have to put an ear near the case to hear). A tiny % of “unicorn” GPUs have no whine at all (or their owners are deaf). With the sample size of 2, guess your chances.

Been having PC issues for awhile now. Loud whine sound from my rig when booting some games. Doesn’t happen when running benchmarks. Thought it was the GPU, so swapped from a 4090 to a 5090. Issue persists. Thought it was PSU related (14900k + 5090 is a lot of power). Finally upgraded to a 1500w Corsair. Issue persists. I hate computers so much. I’m never ever building one again. I just want to play some games to relax. I’m so fucking done that I am fighting the urge to throw this $6k+ rig off of my balcony. Is there anywhere in SF that I can drop this off, hand over $1k and get back a working PC?

I mentioned a “bell curve meme” in one of my internal posts at Meta along these lines, but for an established product the ends would be “just make it better” in contrast to the over strategizing.

@julikt @BKMeditor Modern motherboards often require lower frequencies and slower timings to get 4 modules to work. It’s probably mentioned in small print in a footnote on the specs page.

@BKMeditor Which I did (2 matched pairs, same vendor, same series etc.), until it turned out that mobos' with that chipset (very popular about 3-4 years back) generaly just fuck up configuring mem timings with 4 DIMMs - cause who would actually want to use all the 4 slots right?.. 😡

I was this many years old when I found out that the PC "Gaming" motherboards have 4 DIMM slots, but getting 4 DIMMs to actually work is nigh impossible. I guess the "other 2" are for decoration purposes only. Also: yay cheap PC shit, G4s used to have 4 slots and worked fine.
