@zookeepermc @Palestinia12961 Didn’t realize it was that many for 1st. My words were clumsy, but I was aware that all states allow 2nd cousin marriage, pardon.

Cousin marriage is still common in our culture. Since I was 16, every time we go to visit our family my uncles are asking my father about me. When I asked him about that he said: Me and your mother are not cousins, we are not even relatives. We broke this cycle, and at least in our family we are not going back.

@Palestinia12961 Good for your parents. Genuine question: is there attempts to have it be 2nd cousins instead of 1st? In the US, some states allow 2nd cousins to marry, a few 1st cousins.

@Palestinia12961 Why is it bad if the fiancés consent and are adults? The risk of birth defects is much lower with cousins than siblings, and it has been common in many cultures.

@Garnet_2203 @EttFo @osstf Like bc did. And ns did. They all took the path of going to court because it will take so long it stops being their problem. And taxpayers pay up later.

Let’s call this what it is—this isn’t normal policy, it’s edging into union busting. You don’t cycle out a workforce and replace it with cheaper labour without triggering serious legal consequences. @ettfo @osstf

You can’t lawfully sidestep wages and seniority by cycling out experienced teachers and replacing them with cheaper labour. If that’s the strategy here, it’s legally vulnerable, full stop. Doug Ford once again force unions to challenge it (and they will), Ontario taxpayers will once again foot the bill.
linda haslett@lindahaslett

There are almost 40,000 licensed teachers in Ontario. @PaulCalandra @fordnation is firing 1000s of teachers. Now they want to make teacher education 1 year program to hired "more teachers". How does this make any sense?

He threatened to destroy power plants, bridges, and critical infrastructure, systems civilians depend on to survive. That’s the kind of rhetoric associated with collective punishment and serious violations of the laws of war. And he was prepared to do it while mediation was still underway. A two-week ceasefire doesn’t change that. It only delays the question: what happens when it ends?

@gator_gum Except that.... alcohol sales are in heavy decline.... as are the tax revenues and the justification for them. If 100% taxation is slavery and 0% is freedom, exactly which direction is Cnada headed?

@academic_la But the women have put up with 47 years of Islamic rule. None were helped, yet… Maybe none will be helped, but I think it is a valiant cause.

I wish people would learn from this. This war served NO ONE. Iran has been destroyed. The US has been humbled. Israel has been bombed and lost support in the US. The Gulf States have been damaged. The global economy has been hit. Who needed this? War is never the answer.

@gator_gum Why not? If the youth of today do not get involved what will they inherit? A few defunct factory buildings that couldn't produce batteries, steel, or cars? Swaths of Canada that have been sold off to global interests?

So, an Opposition MP has returned from his trip to the US. He's now in Halifax, of to Saskatchewan next. The Leader of the Opposition is in Europe, and travelling around. This is absolutely ridiculous. RW Influencers post about the PM who travels to literally do his job and meet with other leaders around the world, while celebrating this nonsense?
Jamil Jivani@jamiljivani

Just landed in Halifax. Our message is clear: The decline of our country is the result of bad choices made by people in power. With your help, better choices and better outcomes are possible. Next up, Saskatchewan. RSVP: restorethenorth.ca/campustour

Several people were just murdered in an Iranian attack on Beit Shemesh. The Israeli & American imperialist assault on Iran is a crime, but we shouldn’t have to choose between oppressive regimes - we can hate them all. FUCK ISRAEL FUCK IRAN FUCK THE US Let the people live.

@ori_goldberg They can't put boots on the ground. Trump doesn't want to and Israel will never have that capability. They're hoping for an uprising to do it for them. There is no plan other than bombing.

Therr is one question neither Israel nor the US is capable of answering: "What now?" Other than Khamenei's head (or some such "achievement") there is no plan. There is only death for the hollow men. Ours, theirs, it doesn't matter. Death, that's what's now.

Has anyone actually presented a coherent vision for regime change in Iran? How do you defeat the IRGC without boots on the ground? If the IRGC isn’t defeated, why would anyone expect Iran’s political system to fundamentally improve?

This war in Iran is a moral and strategic mistake. However, there is no reason for anyone with a conscience to mourn Khaminei. Here are just some of the crimes he has committed: 1) In January, he ordered a crackdown which saw the massacre of thousands of protestors and hundreds of thousands wounded across 400 cities. This was one of several crackdowns he had ordered in his life going back to his role as in the 1988 massacre. 2) Under him, there was widespread use of rape, electric shocks to genitalia, and "forced nudity" in detention centers to suppress dissent. 3) He ordered a record number of executions, many of them arbitrary. In one month alone (October–November 2025), 304 people were hanged. They were often obtained through false confessions. Many others disappeared. 4) He is linked by the U.S. Treasury to the 1983 Beirut Marine Barracks bombing and the 1994 AMIA bombing in Argentina and possibly October 7th. 5) A good deal of corruption. Control of a vast financial empire, Setad, worth billions and built largely on the systematic seizure of property from religious minorities and political dissidents. He also helped the IRGC create smuggling operations that function as a mafia. 6) His regime systematically repressed minoroties, notably the vBaha'is through fatwas calling them "impure" and ordering state suppression. 7) He was behind repression of womens rights on a massive scale. Enforcement of repressive laws leading to the death of individuals like Mahsa Amini and Armita Geravand. There was also systematic defamation and degradation of the LGBTI+ community, including hangings of members of the community. 8) His regime destabilized, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen among others and armed and helped Russia commit crimes in Ukraine. In total he is responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands. Probably over a million. A modern day monster who had it coming. Just because we don't like what Israel and the US are doing, does not mean we need to excuse crimes or whitewash his record. The Iranian people deserve better.

We went to a dinner as a group and had a $500 bill. We tipped $40. We were happy we can be able to give our server something, but her reaction was the opposite. She told us she assumed we're going to give her at least $120. When we asked for the manager, she said she was just joking, but she wasn't smiling at all. Idk, but is $40 tip enough for $500 bill? I just feel like expecting $120 is not realistic. ~Lea Robertson
