@Fortis1o @ejem_ike @winexviv It was obvious to me that she was provoked and the staff started filming her bad behavior to sway the narrative from themselves initiating the conflict. Other passengers have come out to tell their side. The fact that one of the flight attendants pulled her top screams vendetta.

I don’t have the details of that. My guess is that they were waiting for airport security. I also can’t reconcile that video with the need to bundle her out of the aircraft. Even at that point, she could have presented herself as a reasonable person and apologized for hitting some of the staff members and the matter would have died down. This is without prejudice to the fact that she wasn’t treated the same way other more connected previous offenders were treated. A wider Nigerian problem of impunity.

Ibom Air should be charged to court and they have to pay heavy damages to that girl. They messed with her dignity. She was just a customer and not a security threat. Other air hostesses will start abusing passengers very soon. Anyways, fly Enugu Air or Airpeace for sanity✌️

Whoever posted her video with her body exposed should (and the aviation minister has assured) be punished. But she needed to be physically removed (by 4 men) because she was obviously refusing to comply. People should have some basic decency for themselves. But above all, companies should show maximum courtesy to their customers, no matter how obnoxious or rambunctious they choose to be.

If I am to advise the management of IBOM Air, I will withdraw the court case filed against this lady. They can’t win the case in terms of reputation even if they win in court. While the lady appears culpable in some respect; so is Ibom’s staff as well. I have seen a video where the lady was blocked and prevented from leaving the aircraft by Ibom staff. So why is there a need to carry her out of the plane she was willing to leave in the first place. Investigation may well apportion blame to Both sides. In light of this; a court case is not the solution. Withdraw the case and use some form of ADR to resolve this matter. More training on deescalation techniques need to be given to all airline staff. For example, there are people who can misbehave on flights due to phobia and anxiety of flying. They would need to be dealt with sensitively and calmly; not with heavy handed tactics. The video of her nakedness was clearly taken by someone linked to IBOM as it was on board the aircraft. This makes the airline vicariously liable of this indecent exposure. IBOM should look at the bigger picture and not allow this story to remain front page for too long. They have more to lose than this lady reputation wise. Withdraw the case; submit to a form of ADR and let go of this matter and move on vey quickly. The lady should be released immediately from detention. A six months ban by IBOM airline only could be a proportional punishment. The lady will also need to apologise for her behaviour. A lifetime ban is not proportional and a ban of any kind by other airlines is unnecessary. Justice should focus on restoration rather than mere punishment because true justice heals harm, repairs relationships, and rebuilds communities instead of simply inflicting retribution. This is my considered advice to the management of this lovely airline, IBOM.

You grab a viral incident, lace it with poetic quotes, and suddenly you’re the hero of the oppressed never mind that you completely ignore the context and the law. Ibom Air is a private airline, not a government agency. They have every right, under global aviation standards, to ban any passenger whose behaviour threatens flight safety or disrupts operations. This isn’t about “the weak” being punished it’s about keeping passengers and crew safe. A flight cabin is not a campaign rally, and rules exist for a reason. You talk about “due process” like this is a criminal trial. In reality, airlines everywhere impose immediate sanctions in such situations because safety protocols can’t wait for political speeches. In the US, UK, and Europe, passengers have been banned for far less sometimes just for refusing to wear a mask or verbally abusing crew. And here’s the irony you’ve walked away from your own unanswered questions. The Pandora Papers linked you to offshore assets you never fully explained. Your campaign figures have been fact-checked and found wanting. Should we apply your “spider web” analogy to that too? Reform isn’t about turning every disciplinary action into a morality play for political points. The young lady acted out, the airline acted within its rights, and the law backs it. That’s not oppression it’s order. What drags Nigeria backwards is when leaders encourage the public to see discipline as injustice just to win sympathy. A new Nigeria isn’t built by excusing bad behaviour simply because the person isn’t rich. It’s built when the rules apply to everyone including politicians who prefer preaching from the sidelines.

The Poor Must Not Be Punished While the Powerful Walk Free Yesterday, I sincerely apologised to Ibom Air and its crew for the unacceptable conduct of one of their passengers. This morning, I woke up to learn that the passenger, the young Ms. Comfort Emmanson in her twenties, has been banned from flying for life—once again showing how our system works, proving the truth of Anacharsis’ words that “the law is like a spider’s web: it catches the weak, while the powerful break through with ease.” There is everything systemically Wrong and unjust about this authoritarian decision. What due process was followed over night leading to this sanction? Have we exhausted the avenues of justice and compassionate resolution on this matter? It is a tragic irony that a young lady in her twenties can be banned for life, while we—her parents —commit worse crimes against humanity and are celebrated; those in positions of authority perpetrate far greater offences that harm the nation deeply, yet move freely in comfort, shielded from consequences, and in Ms. Emmanson’s case, the authorities acted with lightning speed, but the same urgency is absent when dealing with the influential and politically connected. If this young woman, who indeed acted wrongly, now seeks to apologise, who will hear her cry in a country where the pain of the poor is invisible and the dignity of the less privileged is often disregarded? Justice must be consistent, or it becomes oppression in disguise. This must change. Justice must be equal for all. There must be room for compassion, for rehabilitation, and for understanding when misconduct stems from frustration or displaced aggression. Power must never determine who is punished and who is pardoned. May God heal our land. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
