@GuyBarter Well done! I try some years when feeling bold. They’re so hard to grow if you’re not a huge farm
English
First cauliflowers of the year. Take 9 months to grow & don't compare with superb Isle of Wight ones sold absurdly cheaply in local shops but I like to keep my cauliflower hand in. Purple sprouting a better crop and that is coming in now. #allotment

Wooden enemies near Richmond (N Yorks). My first of the year. (Called em that for years!)

@absolutelywild Early! No sign of the ones that come up in my garden

These broad beans Aquadulce Claudia have just been sitting in the greenhouse looking sorry for themselves until last Tuesday when we had a whole day of sunshine and warmth.. and ta daaa! Here they are! #gyo #allotment #allotmentlife

Some of the amazing tree ‘flowers’ out there at the moment - Larch female and male strobili, Alder female strobilus and male catkin, Hazel catkin and tiny female flower, strange petal-less barely open Ash flowers, nearly open Yew flowers. #tree #flower @wildflower_hour

Bittercress coming into flower. Those 4 stamens help distinguish it from Wavy Bittercress #WildflowerHour

English

@ChicksChange No, they're blackthorn. There's loads of it come out in blossom over the past 4 or 5 days. 🙂

@Punkrocksal @bernoid @SewellLeigh Hard to be certain as so immature, but possibly Goblets (Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis)
English

I don't know what these tiny mushrooms are yet. But it made my day spotting them on a rotting tree trunk along The River Ivel in Beds this morn. Can anyone help please? @bernoid @SewellLeigh? #FungiFriday #Mushrooms #trees #nature #WinterWatch #FeelgoodFriday #RunningLife

@NatureLark @IreneBoston2 @BSBIbotany @wildflower_hour Seems to be spreading extraordinarily quickly near me Sussex. Pretty but v invasive!
English

@IreneBoston2 @BSBIbotany @wildflower_hour It reproduces vegetatively in the UK (we only have male plants) via rhizomes (underground stems) allowing it to form dense colonies. The rhizomes break easily and even small fragments can form new plants. Fragments can be dispersed on machinery, which might explain this colony.

A very nice surprise on the edge of Dersingham for the #NewYearPlantHunt - masses of Winter Heliotrope in a new spot. Never seen it there before. That embankment was dug last year for roadworks - does it respond well to disturbance like that? @BSBIbotany

Some super-fresh Collared Earthstars (Geastrum triplex) spotted yesterday for #FungiFriday #fungi
