Dudes don’t need the “manosphere.” They need papaws, great uncles, neighbors who served in Vietnam, and that one old guy from work.

The Industrial Revolution—the greatest thing ever to happen—required the British govt to deploy more troops against Luddites than they had fighting Napoleon at the same time Damaging machinery was made a capital offense and they had dozens of executions, hundreds of deportations
Dean W. Ball@deanwball

The Industrial Revolution would not have happened if it had begun amid our current institutions, political economy, and level of regulation/procedural roadblocks aka “democratic input.” This is among the starkest challenges facing Western society today, though uncouth to discuss.

@Joshua4570 @cremieuxrecueil Lactose intolerance has to do with the exocrine pancreas not secreting enough lactase enzyme to break down the lactose. It's not an allergic immune system thing.

@cremieuxrecueil I've read that a lot of this has to do with people who are lactose intolerant saying that they're allergic to milk, which I mean...

In a 2013 systematic review, a third of the people in high-income populations self-reported that they had at least one food allergy. Which of these is closest to the actual percentage that verifiably had a food allergy?

@LinkofSunshine I'd probably do it for a standard raise, but I'd rend my garments to get a bit more

By the way, this has changed very little on the ground, because the US is in fact still supplying a shitload of weapons to the Ukrainians, Europe is just the one footing the bill for it. They are full of sound and fury, signifying a largely performative policy change.

BREAKING: In a stunning moment, JD Vance just declared the thing he’s proudest of is stopping funding for Ukraine. The Trump-Vance Administration is turning American leadership into the world’s laughingstock.

@DastDn These people's brains are so small, that can't conceive of a democracy ever ousting an autocrat, so obviously the autocracy was fake.

The takeaway here should be that despite 16 years of effort to undermine them, the democratic institutions proved stronger than any feared, and the Hungarian desire for liberty won out. Not that Orban was a normal democratic politician who never did anything wrong ever.
The Free Press@TheFP

The same pundits who think American democracy is dying have spent years insisting that Hungary is run by a dictator. But that man, Viktor Orbán, just lost an election—and is peacefully leaving power. thefp.com/p/what-kind-of…

Yeah, and swing voters are very sensitive to overreach. They usually swing because they're more towards the medan voter right? But I was more referring to Spanberger's body of work as a whole, too. She's kind of pulling a Biden "I'll be a check against Trump's GOP" and then letting her leftiest staffers set the agenda.

I know many VCs won't agree, but: Fraud is bad. Companies that scam their customers and lie to the public should be punished rather than rewarded. You should not stay loyal to a founder when they get caught red-handed committing fraud.

Interesting, quetiapine et al essentially function as glp-1 antgonists, so I was curious, but I guess direct glp-1 agonists just overwhelm that mechanism. Now just gotta convince docs the double pancreas warning thing isn't a double threat. In fact, glp-1 agonists should mitigate that, if anything.

This is a very reassuring replication. In the broader literature, this fits very well, because it's just another sign that these drugs work for basically every population, no matter how troubled. To learn more, see: cremieux.xyz/p/there-are-no…

Antipsychotics cause weight gain, so schizophrenics who use their meds are often fat. But, if you put those schizophrenics on GLP-1RAs, they still lose weight, have improved blood sugar control, and become more insulin-sensitive. GLP-1s work even if you're on antipsychotics!

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day In 1900, Jews were the second most common religion in Europe. 2/3rds of them were murdered. I will never be able to visit my ancestral hometown, because every citizen there was killed. Never again. We can never let anti semitism seep back in.
