Punk is the notion of DIY; AI is the opposite of that because you’re quite literally making and creating nothing while the algorithmic probability machine does it all for you.

it’s kind of reassuring that every person and project that supports AI i find to be unimaginably lame and nearly everyone I respect is like vehemently against it

@gamerboiprince @norabird It's about the sound quality and production value. I'm not trying to sound indie or lo-fi. If you are anti-ai music you won't get the the ledge with me anyway. If you think all artists should be solo in their rooms ok, but practically everyone uses producers and quality tools.

@DavydKeyes @norabird You could probably diy the chaotic good playbook yourself with a Claude subscription. If anything it’s a more “democratic” promotion strategy than many others. That doesn’t make it good because social engineering with bot networks is bad.

if you are a creative you need to adapt or just like give up and become an uber driver until everyone has a waymo. Geese marketing scheme doesn't diminish their talent, but it does make a bunch of true believers look like complete rubes for believing the kayfabe that "indie" acts are somehow more authentic than those without that branding.

This just reads like diplo genuinely thinks having convictions about the creative process only matter if it benefits your success or popularity. Which to me feels disingenuous and is right up there with the bad parts of sample pack and preset culture we are living through rn.
