A Minneapolis man in his 70s dies days after he is assaulted by a neighbor Chief O’Hara announced that a man has died days after being assaulted, and the suspect is expected to be charged with murder. On April 5, 2026, First Precinct officers responded to a report of an unconscious man in the hallway of an apartment building on the 300 block of Hennepin Ave. Officers located a man in his 70s unconscious near the elevators. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare. Through their investigation, officers learned from surveillance video that the man had been struck by another man following a brief verbal altercation. Officers identified, located, and arrested the suspect, 61-year-old Michael Joseph Walker, a resident of the building, who was still inside. Minneapolis Police investigators were notified on April 14 that the injured man had died at the hospital. First-degree assault charges filed by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office are expected to be amended to include homicide.
