There's a sometimes-atheist argument that goes something like this, and I think it's flawed 1. the God in question is all knowing 2. they know what I will do next 3. the god put everything in place, knowing every outcome 4. so they wanted me to sin/fail/not reach heaven etc 🧵

I think of the UK as a second home, so this may be a bit tough. UK healthcare is not free; it is paid for by UK taxes. It is also rationed - a dear friend in the UK recently died of a cancer that was easily treatable - but she could not get seen into to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. In the US, we pay for health insurance and get regular annual check-ups. We have to take a much more active role to both stay healthy and be covered in case something bad happens. Also, for an example, the US has 40 MRI machines per 100,000 people, the UK has 8 per 100,000 people.

@owenk98 I’m currently 19 and an apprentice, I work away from home, rent, pay bills, food, travel etc. I’m currently earning £19k after taxes and the thought of having £35k even before taxes sounds life changing to me. Things would be so ouch easier.

How do you go about an adult life and only earn 19k?
nass@nasscrave

@MediumChiller15 Condescending prick. If you’ve only ever earned £19000 at most, a £35000 wage would seem astronomical. Stop making it about politics

You cannot call yourself a fan of a music genre if you only listen to artists from 20/30 years ago and have no knowledge of current artists of that scene.

If the UK joined the US as the 51st state. We would be the poorest state in the entire union. Mississippi which is portrayed at swamp dwelling hillbillies in majority of international media is above us. I don’t think people grasp how far we’ve fallen in real terms when it comes to GDP per capita. We’ve seen no growth for almost an entire generations. We’ve seen our productivity decrease and our tax increases. The average person on the UK, on £50,000 is less well off than your average Mississippi swamp dweller.

If, like me, you were born in 1956, you’ll receive almost £300,000 more in benefits than you’ll pay in taxes in your lifetime State Pensions make up a huge chunk of that Long term, we simply can’t afford to sustain the Triple Lock’s generosity Blog: desmondswaynemp.com/ds-blog/1956/?…

@Ydoyoucare7623 @sentdefender And Ukraine wasn’t our war. It was a European war and we helped Europe by supporting Ukraine. Why is it NATO always seems to forget that fun fact.

The scaffold is up because building must be inspected every five years and it's installed if faults are found. In many cases it's cheaper to keep the scaffold than fix the problem. Inspections have been reduced to every six years (12 for new buildings) - great to see politicians owning a problem and escaping the Precautionary Trap*. *The secret ingredient, as always, was trying.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Hey New York, no one likes unnecessary scaffolding. Thankfully, we have a plan — and John Wilson is here to help break it down.
