@WilliamWolfe There's no structured way for the rank and file to let their voices be heard. Our church doesn't vote on what SBC candidate to support. It seems the decision is entrusted to the pastor alone. We've seen the secular sphere has more influence on the messengers than the congregation

The Conservative Resurgence in the Southern Baptist Convention is truly a unique victory in American religious history. While all the other Protestant mainlines went liberal (then woke), Baptists fought a “battle for the Bible”—and won. So why are we in such a mess again now? Today at @BaptistLeaders, @Byzness brings some sobering but helpful insight: The governance of the SBC has been subverted and degraded by an oligarchy. “In the standard telling, the old, stultified, out-of-touch liberal elites of the convention were running what amounted to an oligarchy utterly unrepresentative of rank-and-file “Billy Baptist.” The Conservative Resurgence, on this account, was not only a return to biblical doctrine; it was also a return to a more legitimate polity, one more responsive to the convictions of the churches. There are reasons to suspect the opposite may be true: that even while the SBC has enjoyed a formal recommitment to the fundamentals of the faith, its governance and polity have steadily degraded since the Conservative Resurgence.”
Center for Baptist Leadership@BaptistLeaders

Saving America's largest Protestant denomination from theological liberalism, wokeness, & managed decline will take more than "grassroots" turnout @Byzness argues that breaking the "oligarchy" will require a revolution of extreme ownership by SBC churches centerforbaptistleadership.org/the-iron-law-o…

@VladTheInflator Yup, easy to seem like a real estate mogul when the gov is driving up housing prices through insanely low rates they would never exist in a free market

The entire real estate industry's success is based on a single fucking thing. Interest rates. If interest rates don't fall forever, 90% of them get washed out. They were never smart, good businessmen.... They just bought assets with debt while the government was manipulating the market. They government did this by destroying the real economy and specifically wages. That was always the goal.
Graham Stephan@GrahamStephan

I’ve spent a decade telling people to do what I do: "Buy and Hold." Now I've decided to list my entire real estate portfolio for sale and walk away. It started slow. The bills, the maintenance, the tax increases... but the final straw was when I tried to develop an ADU to do exactly what the city of LA claims it wants investors like me to do: Create more housing. You'd think they'd make it easier, but after two delayed inspections, a sewer pipe replacement that needed 75 days advance notice, and a city-owned tree that became my responsibility, I'd had enough. The identity of being a real-estate guy is very hard to walk away from, trust me. For a long time, I stayed just because real estate was my "thing." It’s how I started. It’s what I’m known for. It led to every good thing in my life. But that blinded me to the fact that just because something served me in the past, it doesn't mean things haven't changed in the present. The reality of 2026 finally stripped the emotion away. My LA rentals are netting about 4-5% after the constant background noise of taxes, insurance spikes, and repairs. Meanwhile, a risk-free Treasury pays 5%. The trade-off just doesn't make sense any more. I’m reallocating to a liquid portfolio that actually lets me focus on the work I love. I published a deep dive on my Substack about the ADU nightmare that broke my patience, the exact numbers behind the exit, and where I’m moving the money next to buy back my sanity. I'll drop the link here in a bit.

@TheFoxMatriarch This is a good and likely true point but trust has totally broken down. I took my healthy happy four year old to a new doctor and they asked her if she was a boy or a girl. She thought it was a joke and laughed but it’s because of things like this parents are creeped out.

@BaptistLeaders Small church pastors son here. My parents went to San Antonio in 88 as messengers. Doubled as a family vacation. They had to borrow money to go and we tent camped. It’s really hard for small churches to send anyone and it’s not really on most churches radar unfortunately.

Did you know that, on average, only 1 in 10 SBC churches sends messengers to our annual meeting? This is why Conservatives often lose, and the SBC becomes increasingly Liberal. We can change that. We are now 8 weeks away from the 2026 SBC Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. This will be one of the most consequential presidential elections in the SBC since Nashville in 2021. Today is a good day to recruit your messengers, book your flights & hotels, and plan to be there. This election could change the direction of the SBC for the next 10 years. centerforbaptistleadership.org/denomination-w…

@notaproviderMD You're being paid very well to perform a service. Usually it just involves listening and communicating your treatment. Customers expect a level of professionalism. This is how the business world works, doctors have been sheltered from it and it shows.

The last 24 hours has enlightened me about the way people think about their doctors. I'm truly floored, and deeply saddened by statements like this: "Patients have no responsibility to act in a particular way. Period."
Cordelia The Fool@WanderingChord

@notaproviderMD @MastcellMadness Patients have no responsibility to act in a particular way. Period. It's your responsibility to provide care to even the very frustrating. It's literally the entire job.

As a public-facing professional, if you can't figure out how to communicate in good faith with all the vastly different people who are paying you enormous amounts of money to put your kids through private school, then you're not a professional
Jonathan@jabberwock951

I'm not gonna lie, it is frustrating when you ask a patient what's wrong and they just give you a diagnosis. Like "I have a chest infection". OK, you're probably right but I need to know your symptoms to see if I agree with that diagnosis. I can't just take your word for it.

Q: I am a daughter of legal immigrants… How do we fix the immigration system for people who have been waiting for their green cards for so long? Vance: I’m marred to the daughter of immigrants. They’re great people. But I also think that when you become an American citizen, one of the responsibilities we must expect of citizens is that you have to think about the best interests of the country and not the country you came from…

🚨 Evangelical and Catholic Christians: this immigration crisis has already reached our churches.🚨 Did you know 1 in 12 Christians in America is either undocumented or has a family member who is? That is millions of Christians potentially at risk of deportation. Many have been part of our congregations for decades. Don’t take my word for it… See the “One Part of the Body” report from the National Association of Evangelicals and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Immigration is also a matter of conscience. While some churches are more affected than others, the Apostle Paul reminds us that the Church is one body: “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:26) @USCCB @NAEvangelicals

-Jews don’t believe that Jesus is the son of God or our messiah. -Mormons believe Joseph Smith re-established Jesus’ church here in America -Catholics believe the Pope is an earthly representative of Christ. I dont agree with any of that, nor am I “against” them. I share my country with them, and I share parts of my faith with them. However, I don’t want the leaders of any of those religions or the institutions they lead to have any sort of moral authority over my President.

Amazon has laid off ~57,000 Americans while keeping existing and new H-1B workers. Here's one bragging about making $350k while his American coworkers got fired (likely because foreigners protect each other through ethno-nepotism during layoffs).

20yrs ago today, the day after the revelation of no DNA matches in the lacrosse case, Mike Nifong appeared at North Carolina Central University, a HBCU in Durham. To applause, Nifong said he'd move forward with the case anyway, and would prosecute it the "good old-fashioned way."

You can disagree with me all you want. That’s DEMOCRACY. But when death threats and hate replaces debate, it becomes the last refuge of cowards. It tells you everything you need to know. I don’t bow to intimidation. I only stand on facts and values. That’s how AMERICA works!
