@nathan_stevens Q3. Too darn many! #edtechchat (The logins and passwords these kids have to remember, especially when you consider whether it actually helps student build digital literacy and demonstrate their learning.)
English

@LindaEdwardsi I love this! Sometimes we just need to remember that we can simply ask. #LearnLAP
English

A2 We actually did an activity about our Super Powers where we shared our strengths 😀 Many students had passions and strengths to share with others #LearnLAP
English

@nbartley6 A3. A big thing is creating an environment that makes it safe to unleash their passions. Students have to make each other feel safe too. A teacher can create an environment that diligently empowers all voices while requiring civility. #LearnLAP

@Rdene915 @KaylaEteach4 @ElisaBostwick @gimkit The reflection questions the students himself was phenomenal! Thank you for the resource. I bookmarked it. #formativechat

Q1: If we truly value critical thinking, creative problem solving, communication, and collaboration, we should be teaching and assessing those outcomes. How are you creating opportunities to develop these skills in students?

@nbartley6 Curious to hear these responses. I never considered how this could inspire students. Great question! #LearnLAP
English

@shawnwigg LOL! Amen! What's the point of protecting your documents if you can't find them? #edtechchat
English

@nathan_stevens Of course! I prefer Office Suite, but most people are on the Google Platform. Office 365 is more sophisticated and handles more complicated jobs, but Google is great for collaboration and getting things done. #edtechchat

@nbartley6 Hi! I am Whitney and student teaching in Detroit while attending grad school at U-Michigan. Glad to be here! #LearnLAP

@MrAustinA2 @cclark421 @levi_allison42 I also want to know as a new teacher what should I expect and how far do we have to move the pendulum to say we were successful and students are demonstrating their learning authentically. #formativechat
English

@cclark421 @levi_allison42 One of the most challenging parts about teaching my Humanities classes (the source of the emotional labor) is the amount of unlearning that has to be done about classroom culture, grades + grading + discussion in order to make it work in the way it needs to work. #FormativeChat
English

A1 if we value the 4cs we have to get away from grading the product and start giving feedback on the process. I will often give give Ss a rubric or checklist at the start of a unit and ask them to refer to it without. When I Conference it's the first q I ask #formativechat
English

@MrAustinA2 @cclark421 @levi_allison42 So true. I am a student teacher and starting to get my students to reflect on their math thinking. Without fail, I get the question, "Is there a right answer? What do you want me to say?" #formativechat
English

@ElisaBostwick A1. In math classes, you sometimes have to break "bad" habits of fast equals smart and performance versus understanding. So first, you need to build norms, procedures and skills of small group work that are the foundation of your question. #formativechat
English

@ElisaBostwick A2. This also includes students recognizing, appreciating and explaining their classmates thinking and learning, especially when the demonstration and skills are different from their own. #formativechat
English

Q2: To best assess learning & foster empowerment, we need greater use of authentic assessments where students apply their skills & demonstrate learning. Describe what this looks like in the classroom and share tools or resources that others can utilize. #formativeChat #LEAPeffect

English

@Rdene915 @LScumpieru This is so difficult in a math class. Until I became comfortable with the silence, I had to ask a question and tell them I would return. Otherwise, I would answer for them and, more importantly, they would not have the space to think. #formativechat
English

@LScumpieru I had to really work to break my habit of answers Qs too quickly, need to let them explore and struggle more #formativechat

So important - the Ss learn as the teacher is the guide on the side. Love your thinking with FA! #formativechat

A1-Trying to focus more on the process including an emphasis on #formativeassessment Celebrating and learning from mistakes. Use PBL and try to differentiate instruction. Enjoy being the guide along for the ride #formativechat

@BrianDunleavy16 Brian, this ties into allowing multiple opportunities to give and receive feedback. So that they understand how learning evolves and continues. It does not stop with a test. #formativechat
English

@bethhill2829 Yes! They to understand what they are learning and can contribute as active, informed participants. #formativechat

@mrkempnz A2. Opening the doors to mathematics not only for more students through equity, rigor and engagement, but how mathematics informs our lives, supports other subjects, and helps us make decisions.
