Some history on $AVAX and its founder 🗞️ Did you know that Emin Gün Sirer (@el33th4xor), the founder of Avalanche (AVAX), and his collaborators publicly raised serious red flags about The DAO weeks before the infamous 2016 exploit? Back on May 27, 2016, Emin along with Dino Mark and Vlad Zamfir published "A Call for a Temporary Moratorium on The DAO." They pointed out major issues with its design and governance that could be exploited, and they straight up begged the community to pause, review everything carefully, and fix the problems before launching such a massive project with real money at stake. The community didn't listen. A few weeks later, on June 17, 2016, someone exploited a reentrancy vulnerability in The DAO's smart contract and drained about 3.6 million ETH (worth tens of millions at the time). It became one of the biggest and most consequential hacks in crypto history, eventually leading to Ethereum's controversial hard fork. That whole episode is a perfect example of Emin's security first mindset. Instead of just chasing hype, he was (and still is) the guy saying "slow down and do this right." It's exactly why he later founded Ava Labs and built Avalanche from the ground up with a different philosophy: make it fast, cheap, and actually secure. Avalanche delivers sub second finality, has proven it can handle 100k+ TPS in real conditions, and uses battle tested subnets that keep things isolated and scalable without clogging the whole network. It's not just marketing it's the same careful, thoughtful approach you saw back in 2016.
