@myJPSonline I didn't expect to still be with electricity. Though there have been intermittent power loss, I'm grateful to still have power to this point. Thanks team @myJPSonline hoping for the least damage possible as #melissa's eye rolls over us. #quickrestoration therafter

What authority does Michele Charles has to be issuing out relief on behalf of the Ministry of Social Security? Do they believe govt funds is a family affair?

@IAmXilomen @TiphiKT @AdamLucioWX The same place all evacuation refugees go in catastrophic life threatening situations goofy. You think if there was a national effort to move that many people there wouldn't be aid and shelters available too should such an effort be mounted???? Like stfu bruh

This. Im pretty astounded by the things I've read today. 98% of us care, and try to convey a message of preparation and urgency. We've seen too many times here on our homeland what can happen. When Ian threatened Florida, many stayed because they had been through so many other storms and thought it would be no different despite the messaging. They thought they were prepared doing the same things they've always done. Ian ended killing 149 people in Florida, the deadliest storm in many decades. Our stern warnings come from experience, not a place of arrogance. We just want everyone to come out alive.

Never thought I'd see the Weather Community at war with another country. Wild times. Tensions may be high, but remember those in the path are about to have an extremely rough time. If you're feeling heated, it may be best to log off for a bit. To those in the path of Melissa, I wish you the best and send you love.

@cakefaceshawty_ Americans build wooden houses. Jamaica uses brick and steel, I kinda think 🇯🇲has the stronger structures

@DylanFedericoWX @MatthewCappucci A word of advice Dylan, when people are facing possible doom and gloom you don’t pile on with more messages of doom and gloom. We appreciate messages that have practical information, not people talking to us like we live in wooden huts

@MatthewCappucci Listen you will get some blow back from us Jamaicans. It’s a frustrating time for us, we have been waiting almost a week for this thing, so the more messages of doom and gloom we see the more we lash out. But I appreciate this scientific breakdown

Jamaica — here’s what you will see, hear, smell and experience. The mental preparation behind an imminent disaster is part of the overall preparation. This is the anatomy of Melissa. I sincerely want to educate, inform and protect. Please share.

We are 🇯🇲dealing with hurricanes are normal part of life. Being told by people who never experienced hurricanes “what to do and we all gonna die” is not appreciated and will be met with our true 🇯🇲energy. We will survive this 🙌🏽🙏🏽

I notice there seems to be quite a bit of condescension from some in this community towards Jamaicans… some of y’all seem to be treating them like they’re genuinely stupid. This isn’t their first hurricane, and while this hurricane is going to be uniquely dangerous, they’re on an island with somewhat limited options. I see folks acting like they’re all going to die, and when rightly terrified Jamaicans ask what they’re supposed to do, they’re met with boiler plate responses, and a general “well you should’ve acted sooner” attitude. I think we should just try to be a little bit more compassionate, that’s all. Sure, some can evacuate, and some will be in a reasonably safe spot, but at the end of the day for a majority of them, they will not be able to do much more than sit tight and hope for the best.
