Thousands of shared owners are trapped in potentially unsafe blocks, facing escalating costs they cannot afford and unable to sell or even remortgage. They are left in limbo, with little to no meaningful support from their housing associations.

Exclusive @theipaper, the Housing Secretary went to a “curry night” with major housing developers where exclusive “corporate tables” cost £2,000 plus VAT. inews.co.uk/news/housing-m…

@Mroperandi @BMancunia @HarryScoffin @FreeLeasehlders @ZackPolanski @mtpennycook @UKLabour What it does is create demand for Commonhold NBs if secondhand flats are untouchable leaseholds This exposes donating devs' influence over housing policy and Pennycooks inaction; the latter no longer inexplicable in this context Labour putting lobby profits b4 national interest

@ph7litmus I have never once suggested we’d abolish leasehold outright either in opposition or in government.

Had an early doors restaurant meal as a very rare treat. I had a hard won refund for a subscription they'd put up from £20 to £120 and took it from my account. So. £20 meal. £100 into the Section 20 fund. After a while you stop thinking about it as your own money. I drive a rusty 16 year old Smart Car and yet the housing association want the equivalent value of a very nice secondhand Audi, to cover the Section 20 demand... As an artist I could have put on an exhibition with that money to get me out of here. Heartbreaking but you cannot dwell on what could have been.

Govt minister Matthew Pennycook yesterday : "I have never once suggested we'd abolish leasehold outright" Govt minister Matthew Pennycook on the 27th Jan 2026: "This package as a whole, as I have said, will end the leasehold system in its entirety and in a single Parliament"
