@mikeroweworks The cards weren’t random. Each card is so many higher and one suit different. When he put deck down, he saw bottom card, say the q of clubs. Add two and shift to hearts, you get ace of hearts. Next one add two and shift to spades, you get a three of spades. Etc. next 5 of dia

Like many of you, I was troubled by my last guest. I’ve followed Jason Ladayne for over a year, and I’ve seen him do things with a deck of cards that left me flabbergasted, amused, bemused, amazed, and occasionally, gob smacked. Most of it, however, can be explained by raw skill. Jason is one of the best card mechanics to ever live, and when the cards are in his control, he can conjure up anything. But what he does in this clip takes things to another level. Watch it and tell me what you think. I cut the deck several times when his back is turned. There’s no way he can see what I’m doing. After the final cut, which is left entirely up to me, I take three cards off the top, and put them into my shirt pocket. Jason tells me to remove one. Any one. I doesn’t matter which. And somehow, he knows what it is. Likewise, the other two. How? On the other hand, do I really want to know? I think I do. But the world is more interesting with a bit of mystery, right?

@TommyMac501 @jonathanmaze My drive through experience (at 5-6 McDs in my town) is almost exclusively positive. Inside is almost exclusively negative. They are clearly optimizing for the former.

They forgot the lousy service part. McDs is a somewhat necessary evil. One actual register, kiosks with no paper to print an order number, 60% of the counter is the delivery pick up shelving, no one pays attention to the counter. You have to wave someone down when they glance your way. Drive through is slow and inaccurate. 80% of the time you have to pull forward and wait. It was never like this decades ago. Employees used to compete to see how many cars they can service in thier shift. The more McDonald’s tries to improve, the worse it gets honestly.

And now an example: A person studies hard, takes on student loan debt, and becomes a doctor -- let's say a dentist or dermatologist. Reliably they are mid-six-figures earners in big cities. They are doing well! But our example is entrepreneurial as well !! /1

@AndToddsaid We rarely went out to eat. Our parents made us go outside and entertain ourselves for hours. I’m not blaming people today for it, but technology has led a level of entitlement here that is really dysfunctional. 2/2

@AndToddsaid This is pure entitlement. I think the ease of life today (internet, cell phones, etc) has raised expectations to a degree that we would have found crazy even 30-40 yrs ago. I mean, we had like 3 TV channels on my mom’s farm. 1/

I suppose I'll be accused of being a leftist for saying this, but working professionals shouldn’t have to brown‑bag it to succeed in a modern society. I don't mean that in the “everyone deserves a pony” sense. I mean it in the “my car doesn’t sound right” sense.

@johnarnold It says that those experiencing mechanical catching have a more predictable result, which was she case for mine. Perhaps the surgery is just recommended for a wider range of ppl with knee pain than is optimal.

Many years ago I hurt my knee playing sports. I was referred to the orthopedist for one of the local pro teams. After keeping me waiting for 2.5 hours, he diagnosed a cartilage tear and recommended surgery. I was so mad at his manner and tardiness I left without scheduling. The next week I got a second opinion from a much younger doc who was likely more current on the recent medical literature. He looked at the same MRI. He said he could do surgery now but his advice was to wait 30 days and see if it healed on its own. It did. Medical reversal is when a practice that became widely used is later shown to be ineffective or even harmful. Examples like meniscus surgery show the need to keep gathering evidence. A not immaterial part of the practice of modern medicine doesn't improve health, and may be net harmful.

@kurt13warner Lots of random options on what worked for others. 1) See a doc to rule out arthritis, meniscus injury, etc. 2) Get evaluated for strength/mobility. Anyone that guarantees they can fix you is dishonest.

@SuperRareKeegan McDonald's makes money by selling hamburgers. Health insurance companies make money by selling claims paid out. We need competition, good info etc. But it would be wrong to begin an analysis of McDonald's by arguing that they make money by making their burgers smaller.

I oppose many many police shootings. Without knowing how this event was instigated, cops have no obligation to allow themselves to be stabbed. If the cop started the violence. It's a bad shoot. If he didn't, it is a good shoot. But cops very often (if not most cases) start the problem.

More than 40% of deals we worked on last year had fake EBITDA. Not "messy books." Fake numbers designed to make you overpay. Nearly half. Most buyers would've closed without catching it if they skipped a QoE. You're not betting on a stock. You're betting your family's future.
