@idiosyncronaut @5813cf9e38904f @thdxr The language does impose several limitations that make it awkward to achieve something similar to React. Even if you only consider working with []T - there’s like a couple dozen extremely opinionated deliberate design decisions there

@5813cf9e38904f @thdxr if you had understood the post, you would know his point has zero to do with the language and is an effect of the design of the library.

dealing with a bunch of performance problems in a golang tui library fundamentally due to a very naive architecture - all of which something like react addresses extremely well people in other ecosystems like to make fun of react but they should probably just learn from it

@mitchellh does this mean we’re finally close to actually being able to call the ghostty API to do things? Never really understood why there was no interest in adding the main feature devs need (callable API) versus GTK optimizations or opinionated UI features (they’re appreciated tho)

Cranking up the spice level of this feature. You can now send text, keyboard events, invoke any keybinding action, and more. We're inching towards "wait, this is actually really fucking useful" on this exploration. (Sound on again)

@TheGingerBill @mhtx Unreal Engine 5 how did all programmers collectively fail to overcome OOP without a gc lol the real question - is it harder to get a solid grasp of and do reliable maintainable C++ or Rust master and still have regular release cycles? unreal 5 rust rewrite?

@mhtx If it's not false, tell me the good options. And no, it should not be that. I don't want people writing goddamn web apps for the desktop.

"there isn't really a simple native way to write decent GUIs." False. It should be "there isn't really a simple native way for web developers to write decent GUIs for desktop applications."
gingerBill@TheGingerBill

After watching @theo's video on "Is Electron really that bad?", my personal view is still that it is very bad BUT that's because there isn't really a simple native way to write decent GUIs. There is not a good native alternative for people to use. youtube.com/watch?v=WdmfFm…

@jacobtechtavern @lonelymathmos @paulg that might be true, but the plateau is very real and the trends for average employment duration and the average duration STEM graduates spend seeking in between employment (in particular) are trending in a very unfortunate direction

@thdxr @thdxr sir, is the way vsc-term handles 0-config SSH not worth any +aura in your eyes? as an avid nvim/kakoune/kitty/ghostty user+contributor I’m 99% sure the nuances+engineering behind vsc-term is completely overlooked by most due to mental ligma or sunk cost fallacy (guilty)

I've conquered the YAML boss. Another item checked off the todo list for Ghostty 1.0. We have a fully automated release pipeline for tagged releases now (we've had one for "nightlies" for a long time). This was a test run, but should be ready for the 1.0 build soon. 👻

Lots of offended people reaching out I'd be offended too! But I think the truth is too important not to be spoken — where you live is the single most important career decision you'll make. You should make it with your eyes wide open

@usrbinkat @ibuildthecloud it is EXTREMELY confusing and near impossible to understand unless someone reads the source code they somehow landed on a nested functional call + awkward closure + whatever the fuck yield ends up doing besides passing the value into your function

I just wrote my first golang iterator and holy crap it made the code so much better. For context, this is super advance crap I've actually written three times before. So I already know what the code looks like without an iterator. Can't share the code publically yet, but wow.

@yacinehmito @ibuildthecloud At the end of the day what can you really use Nomad for, it sits in a weird in between layer. for example at Roblox they landed up using it to handle the Kubernetes orchestration layer lol, something like WarpStream fits the bill but even that ended up being a sellout play

I'm kind of sad that I've basically left the infrastructure space when there's a real opportunity to build simple services like this. People are dying for a simple, "not kubernetes" solution for simple "I don't need kubernetes" use cases.
yarlson@yarlson

Started working on an alternative to Kamal (by @DHH). Single binary, supports multiple services. Note: It's in active development; bugs may occur.

@GeoCloudChaser @ibuildthecloud plenty run their own Kubernetes, like kubeadm on rocky; even OpenShift is massive tbh it’s ALL Kubernetes now lol, even something like a ec2 farm many wouldn’t take seriously or would consider a dated approach

@ibuildthecloud @progrium Alpine is so good, can legit just be running in production forever and after a year it all makes sense Personally I think react from a library perspective hits a solid sweet spot of useful abstractions raw js is too tedious, and other stuff feels mega mid like ts lol

@progrium Just simpler. Less frameworks. React reminds me of what happened to the Java ecosystem where the frameworks became more important than the task you were doing. I'm a fan of things like htmx or alpine.js.

Don't sleep on the Cap'n Proto serialization protocol - the author previously created Protobuf, and Cap'n Proto fixes the glaring issues while making it literally infinite times faster. Go read what it has to offer at capnproto[dot]org. It's ∞% faster, and has a much better DX.
