@joelbasson @thealepalombo The focus seems not to be citizens / individuals who are in the EU legally, more like people with return decision.

English

@joelbasson @thealepalombo Yes, you are right TIL.
Wonder if the focus of this change is asylum seekers / people immigrated illegally or people who moved in last ~10 years with some sort of skilled worker scheme and get their citizenship via all legal routes.
English

Breaking: remigration is coming to Europe.
Right now, only 20% of migrants ordered to leave the EU actually do. Today, Parliament voted to advance the Return Regulation through the legislative process. A final vote could come as early as autumn 2026.
What would this mean in practice?
The centrepiece would be return hubs: detention facilities outside EU territory where people could be held for up to two years while their case is finalised. No more waiting inside Europe.
A single Return Order would apply across all 27 member states, so moving to another country would no longer buy more time. Police would share biometric data bloc-wide. Under Article 23, authorities could raid homes and potentially NGO offices to find people subject to removal orders.
Deportation could proceed even while a legal challenge is still ongoing.
Governments could cut benefits, revoke work permits, and imprison anyone who refuses to cooperate.
If removal becomes fast and credible, the incentive to enter irregularly collapses.
What's your take on this?

English

@joelbasson @thealepalombo Even if these people came under work visas? I am not in Europe, but it doesn’t make sense in a way you stated.
English

@thealepalombo That’s not what remigration means.
This is just a Europe wide adoption of Danish emigration policy. Which is great.
Remigration refers to the forced removal of people that moved here after some date. Think 2nd generation and 3rd generation citizens from Morocco and Turkey

@zeeg You don't see them as customers b/c the software built with these are best of the best and don't throw any exceptions in prod, so they don't bother using Sentry.

Yes, this is an unfortunate thing in our industry, it was kinda the same deal for the SRE role as well.
My personal change to SRE happened b/c I was one of the people in the team with more battle scars due to incidents we had and wanted to focus on reliability. Yet later on, it's not seen like that I have been filtered out from product engineering roles saying "oh, he is sre" in real life tho, I didn't become SRE since I couldn't do the product engineering. I became SRE as I did that at scale and wanted to focus on different aspects of it.
It's kinda the same with FDE. It's marketed as it's an SWE role and I'm sure many FDEs from Palantir are amazing engineers yet some recruiter somewhere would categorise them like "Oh since they are not good enough to develop the product, they were sent to the customer just do the integration".
So, it's totally understandable why SWEs don't prefer this title change.
English

Yes, as interesting the role was made out when it started, I talked with several devs who took a FDE role... and quit, a few months later.
Because the role was either overindexing on sales, or being a consultant. The "contribute back to the platform" part did not manifest

Reminds me Improbable, I think since they couldn't sell that to game studios, they eventually had their own gaming studio but didn't hear after that.
