I don't think people realise how serious this Iran situation is. During the 1973 oil crisis, in the UK industrial and commercial users of electricity were limited to 3 consecutive days of power per week, street lighting was reduced, and heating was restricted. Similar things happened in Europe - reduced energy use and rationing. And the current oil shock is significantly worse than that was, by a large margin. Use your imagination. The UK and Europe, and much of the West, including Australia, were already in a very weak position regarding energy security, social stability and economic growth before this war started. They have populations that are already fed up with the status quo, and have been flooded with immigrants that don't share their culture nor values. This will tip many of them over the edge. This feels like the big one to me, and the start of something much more serious than most people are talking about.

One of the biggest success stories of the past decade is DoorDash We finally have the technology to make consumers pay $120 for a $78 meal that'll arrive in 53 minutes lukewarm The enshittification of everything. It's hard to believe their was a time when the standard was free delivery, hot food, delivered in under 30 minutes, delivery driver was lucky to get 10% tip ($2 on a $20 order) Now you get squeezed. You pay multiples more for food that isn't as good, service that isn't as good, an experience that isn't as good.

@nicrypto November just took Bitcoin out back and beat it with a ugly stick -17%, worst since 2019. December’s walking in like “hold my eggnog, bro.” Average +9-18% since 2014. Santa’s bringing gains or I’m eating the reindeer.

Australians are not revolutionaries. Americans are. That difference is why anyone who has really thought deeply about this has rightly concluded that the fate of the entire Western world rests with what the Americans do. The correct analogy for the vast majority of Australians is more akin to Canadians - we are willing to let Daddy government steal everything from everyone and then thank them when they hand back a few scraps of our own money and freedom and call it a gift. This country is cucked. As John rightly posted, there is no future here unless you're happy living in what will functionally become a slave island for rich people and boomers. Anyone in the middle class who doesn't already own property or a solid Bitcoin stack, and is ambitious, is better off leaving. If you choose to stay, you can probably still live a pretty good life outside of the capital cities, but you'll be taxed to death and probably stuck on the wagie treadmill. Just be aware of the tradeoffs you're making - don't delude yourself into thinking things will magically turn around, because in all likelihood they won't. You should expect more immigration, house prices to continue to rise, real wages to continue to decline, taxes to rise, productivity to decline, violence to increase, infrastructure, healthcare and social cohesion to worsen. Australia is a beautiful country in terms of lifestyle - one of the best in the world even to this day - but it is corrupted by idiots only interested in maintaining power for themselves, and for that reason people should strongly consider what they get from staying and watching this shitshow unfold. It's an unserious place to build a serious career.
Bender@Bender_Aus

While I agree to a point, it's worth saying there are tens of thousands that won't go down without a fight. The more freedoms the government legislates away, the more join the fight, and it becomes more important than ever to have a positive place for these people to land. It's still a 50/50 at this stage in my opinion, 2028 is the cut off.

Melbourne’s “free” weekend trains & trams (Nov–Feb) Actual cost to taxpayers: $15M in lost fares 🚋💸 That’s $150k every weekend so the government can get a nice ribbon-cutting photo at the Metro Tunnel. Your taxes, their PR. John… out. 🇦🇺

Melbourne just copped a biblical flogging the second free trams launched 🌧️💥 Every road flooded, stations empty, crowds nowhere. Too big a turnout expected… so they turned the sky into a firehose instead. Clever fix. John… out. 🇦🇺

I really wonder why this picture got millions of views? I gave up my 450 horsepower sports car and ride a bicycle instead. Feel much better and lost weight. I would shame myself wearing anything with LV, Gucci, Prada or any other logo. Only wannabes wear logos.

@elonmusk And as a Sci-Fi fan......isn't this how it starts?......robots as servants. Then some programmer will try and "humanize" them to the point where they begin to give "emotional" responses to be more "entertaining" and then will some other programmer take it to the next step? Hmm
