@PaulSFekete @ostrachan You throw that idea around like it’s some timeless gospel truth… but people didn’t even think in terms of a “personal identity” until relatively recently.

@ostrachan Also, there is no such thing as a "same sex attracted Christian". Swapping out the word "gay" with SSA does not change the fact that Christians should not publicly identify with their sinful desires.

@PaulSFekete @ostrachan You’re just playing silly word games and adding hurdles to the gospel. Many use that phrase to simply describe their experience of attraction, it’s not always some core identity.

@jaredhmoore do you commit sin in your sleep?

According to Preston Sprinkle’s heretical doctrine of sin, he is sinless when he sleeps, for he only sins when he mindfully chooses. “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” -1 John 1:8 He should sleep all the time. Salvation by sleep alone.

Those of you who have read any of John Owen will LOL at this quote from Preston Sprinkle and Gregory Coles. They slandered/libeled Owen, “After all, Owen argues, actual sins require the consent of the will. If the will isn’t involved, no moral action takes place, which means there can be no actual sin: ‘Moral actions are unto us or in us so far good or evil as they partake of the consent of the will. He spake truth of old who said… “Every sin is so voluntary, that if it be not voluntary it is not sin.” It is most true of actual sins. The formality of their iniquity ariseth from the acts of the will in them and concerning them.’ Thus, although Owen never addresses what we now call same-sex attraction, his discussion here seems to align with our view that a pattern of sexual attraction is not (and, by definition, can’t be) a morally culpable sin from which Christians are called to repent. Without an act of the will, there is no moral action, which makes repentance the wrong response. Keith Johnson describes Owen’s approach this way: ‘For Owen, indwelling sin and actual sins involve differing gospel applications. Actual sins require confession, repentance, and forgiveness while indwelling sin must be resisted and battled through the power of the Holy Spirit.’” (19). Owen's entire book The Mortification of Sin refutes their claim probably 1,000 times.

There’s something kind of funny here that only my autism would pick up on. The apologist that Megan Basham isn’t interested in is Gavin Ortlund. We at Evangelical Dark Web did a lot of work exposing him as a theological liberal. We were so effective that Gavin felt compelled to respond with a “Nuh uh!” video. Anyway, what’s funny here is that James White is not shy at all about promoting Gavin Ortlund as an apologetic resource. He did so as recently as last year! James has a soft spot for anyone in academia, and he is hesitant to ever criticize a respected scholar, as he greatly desires to be accepted by academia himself. See my reply below for the video clip.

Can anyone recommend a Protestant podcaster who offers an apologia of our theology against Catholic theology who is a clear creationist—six days, global flood? I know there are some who do this who are local flood, symbolic creation type of people and I’m not interested in them. If it’s someone, for example, who would promote Biologos and Francis Collins or work with Biologos, I don’t want that guy. Is there anyone like this?

One of the easiest ways @albertmohler could raise the standard for Christian ministry is to restore a meaningful dress code at Southern. What we wear shapes how we think. And it would instantly lift the culture, expectations, and seriousness of those preparing for the pulpit.

I consider Cesar Chavez, in the words of my dad, a commie. A destructive force in American history. Even still, I can’t understand the entirety of the left immediately mobilizing to surrender the legacy of one of their greatest “civil rights” heroes based on very thin evidence, no. Not when there was much stronger evidence against Biden in that shower journal.

If the creeds aren't sufficient (and I kinda agree. They don't spell out every application of the faith), then who exactly gets to decide what is sufficient to label someone a heretic… especially as Protestants?

@RawTheology @DrTomSchreiner I really appreciate Preston Sprinkle's heart. I am grateful for his approach and care for those affected by the issues he discusses. However, the overlap between where he diverges from traditional exegesis seems conveniently similar to culture's. That is just an observation.

I don’t know who still needs to hear this, but The Gospel Coalition is neither a trustworthy nor biblically sound resource for conservative Christians anymore. And hasn’t been for a long time. If you see a pastor sharing anything from TGC, that’s a red flag 🚩 🚩🚩

Ftr, I often enjoy John Piper and often learn from him. This was a favorite experience because his and MacArthur’s friendship so mirrored my and Brian’s marriage.
Megan Basham@megbasham

So many touching moments and wonderful testimonies of MacArthur‘s faithfulness, but this might have been Brian’s and my favorite. We shared a laugh at how much John Piper and John MacArthur‘s friendship sounds like our marriage. I am the melancholy, easily discouraged one and he is the one who is never discouraged, and can’t understand what the problem is. 😂 Was wonderful to get to meet Matt MacArthur, @Phil_Johnson_ and Darlene Johnson, and others in person. And the Big Bash enjoyed a Fresca and John’s honor! (Also, I was not aware of this note that had been passed out with my book to the grace to use staff. Not embarrassed to say I was in tears when I read it.)
