I knew a man who as a very small boy danced with an elderly lady who had danced with the Iron Duke…

Did you know the Duke of Wellington lived long enough to be photographed? This image, taken in 1844, captures Arthur Wellesley, the hero of Waterloo, in one of the earliest photographs ever taken.

@DorLinder Must be rough if it is wet or windy, but magnificent views in good weather.

A person who services a wind turbine or a “Wind Technician,” makes 20K a month. Once a month, he climbs to the top of each turbine and takes care of the sensors on top. It takes a half an hour on a small elevator to get to the top. Each technician wears harnesses for protection. The money involved in these turbines is insane.

What is incredible is that very old photos really bring it home what people actually wore and looked like.
Looking at paintings you are inclined to think: sure, but the artist dolled them up, however photos make it clear what they really looked like (and how rumpled a lot of their clothes often were).

@ArmyE0D @rospigge60559 That's the boy for dealing with submarines (or was in its heyday).

@rospigge60559 Depth charges are so 1940 and were almost useless, but they made people feel better. The hedgehog front firing spigot mortar was way better (10x better) (from about 1942-3 on)
And how can you operate Sonar tearing around in a boat like that.

@crockpics 3 of them - all pretty obvious:
Smoke ...
Child in Time,
Highway Star.
(off Made in Japan, an excellent live album).

"Keep Feeling (Fascination)" (1983)
This was a comeback moment after a rough patch, and it pushed them back into the spotlight. The song hit No. 2 on the U.S. charts and became one of their biggest singles.
Do you know the band's name?x.com/calmalgodown/s…

@CuriosityonX Whatever ruled before we came along and is still around. Will vary by location.
Also depends on the timescale, say 10,000 years after we disappeared, then 1000,000 years after...
Maybe Feral hogs in Texas.

It was for the decoy sideways attack where you had 2 dams at right angles. You would fly towards one and release the bomb towards the other dam catching everyone by surprise
Wallace Barns invented the bomb while Gibson Guy led the attack using Avro Manchesters.
So secret no-one has heard if it .. till now.

@TomOHanlon17 Sure, but I'd swap Burger King for TB any time.
And only because no-one had any money to spend on new stuff, or sweet wrappers.

@OldeWorldOrder The telephone box is dated 1798 and was the one used to signal the start of the 1798 rebellion.

@gezwullum @OnDisasters The D version and the following revs were the ones to fight in WW2, and that is what most people are referring to, (except the Spanish).
English

@mahonj @OnDisasters Not the A to C variants engined with a Junckers Jumo engine, those had 2-bladed props.
As of the D (Dora) the DB601 engine was fitted, with a 3-bladed prop.
