@CommodoreLad If you want a Commodore connection, when I worked at Codies in the 80s I went up to the tape duplicating plant in Telford a few times, and they used to make the master tapes on these.

@davecoveney @mpclark The good old days eh Dave... I remember those simpler and happier times. Thank goodness I'm not a dev anymore (the Internet rejoices, I leave it to the pros I work with now!)

@barkway_ken @edwinhayward @campbellclaret And oddly, the ‘useful’ page of my renewed UK passport is laminated and looks and feels pretty much identical to the ID card I had when I lived in France 20 years ago.

@edwinhayward @campbellclaret I’ve never understood the aversion to ID cards, it makes everything so easy. But liberty they scream, hmm we are the most surveilled people on earth, our government have now used ID as a form of age related gerrymandering. The more we squeal about freedom the less we have

Something happened on 1 October that will severely hurt inbound tourism to the UK & damage the business sector too... As Priti Patel boasts, the Tories binned the use of national ID cards to enter the UK. But an estimated 200 million EU citizens only have ID cards not passports.

Apart from ironing are there any other chores we can just start ignoring?

@ifanmj Reminds me of those washing pod ads on tv that end with the voiceover urging us to ‘keep away from children’

@TheDroneSangoma Almost certainly a dodgy list from a third party - I get these offering the Mobile World Congress list all the time, but never from the actual organisers :)

@llamasoft_ox It’s short, so good for headlines; it’s much better than ‘man’; it’s easy to identify with, it starts painting the picture.

@charlotte10_05 I took it as specifically referring to that house, not the wider area. But nice that they’re putting a positive spin on things with a hearty ‘welcome’ rather than being miserable about it.

@bakeliteguy @cymrurouge We’ve got a housing crisis in Wales and it’s nearly impossible to find anywhere to rent. I can understand that somebody might prefer to keep a house empty in case they need it later. It’s a personal choice but it now it comes with a price attached.

@mrswalkerteach But I just shout loudly, "We don't care!" At the ad until it ends. That's the mature and professional way of dealing with the problem.

Met another teacher this week who didn’t know the ad-free YouTube trick so just in case others haven’t heard… put a dash between the ‘t’ and ‘U’ of YouTube and you’ll load up the video without any ads.

@jessejanderson Recently found I was wrong with ‘tan-genital’ instead of tangential — I’m 53 and nobody ever mentioned it…

Nobody warns about the hazards of reading at a young age. I’ll be mispronouncing words like “haphazard”, “melancholy”, and “hors d'oeuvres” for the rest of my life.

@davecoveney Similarly, it would be nice to be able to renew any arbitrary domain — for when some small biz finds its domain has expired and site/email is gone but they can’t track down the freelancer that registered it for them

Almost no domain registrars offer the facility to just say "no, this domain not only doesn't want to be renewed, I want to hear nothing about it dying. Ever. No, you don't need to remind me fifty times. I don't want it. It's over."

Email etiquette question — Do people under, say, 30 actually sign off on emails? Like, Thanks, Heidi —— I do, and I think it’s normal and polite, but don’t know about whether that’s an Old Ppl Habit
