🎂 Happy Birthday, Garry Kasparov! 🎂 Today we celebrate one of chess's greatest legends and most transformative figures in the history of the game. Garry Kasparov's extraordinary career has left an indelible mark on chess—from his unprecedented dominance as World Champion to his revolutionary impact on chess theory, preparation, and culture. Born on April 13, 1963, Kasparov became the youngest World Champion in history at just 22 years old, holding the title for an impressive 15 years. His games are masterpieces of strategic depth, tactical brilliance, and psychological warfare. Beyond his competitive achievements, Kasparov elevated the sport's profile globally, inspired millions of players through his writings and analysis, and demonstrated that chess could be a platform for intellectual excellence and cultural significance. His influence on modern chess preparation and opening theory remains unparalleled. Kasparov's legacy continues to shape how we understand and play chess. His games remain a source of inspiration for players of all levels, and his vision of chess as both art and science has fundamentally transformed the game. The European Chess Union joins the global chess community in celebrating Garry Kasparov's remarkable contributions to our beloved game. We wish you a wonderful birthday! #GarryKasparov #ChessLegend #Birthday #EuropeanChess #ChessHistory

Anna Muzychuk 🇺🇦 emerged as the sole leader of the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament 2026! GM Anna Muzychuk took the sole lead in the #FIDECandidates after six played rounds, with the score of 4/6 points! Muzychuk defeated Zhu Jiner in yesterday's sixth round of the event, to leap on the top and have a full point edge over five players who tie for second place scoring 3/6 points: Zhu Jiner, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Kateryna Lagno, Divya Deshmukh and Vaishali R. Anna Muzychuk entered the event as the highest-placed FIDE Women’s Events 2024–25 cycle, after Humpy Koneru's withdrawal from the tournament. It is a remarkable turn of events for the Ukrainian who is certainly making the most of the opportunity, positioning herself as a formidable contender for the World Championship challenger spot. 🏆♟️ 📸Photo by @FIDE_chess /Michal Walusza
