Haven't really talked about this publicly, but after I left Fox, things got really tight before I started my new job. I went 10 months without a paycheck and with very little contracting work. Family of 6, depleted all our non-retirement savings, and ran up credit card for bills.

@cameronmoll @plasticmind It's hard. Been 5 months today, and still searching. The hardest thing is staying positive and optimistic while watching resources evaporate. More grateful than ever for the support and love of family and friends.

@plasticmind Beautifully, transparently well-said Jesse. My journey last year was similar, though only half the duration and not fun by any stretch of the imagination. Some friends were in a similar boat (summer 2022) but the number of people in this boat today surely is magnitudes greater.

@johndilworth @shaneguymon Good points. Do you feel like you can influence newer designers in an all remote environment? How does someone wanting to learn from you “scoot their chair over” virtually? Is it design reviews? Dedicated collab meetings?

Agreed. As much as I value remote work, being in the office during the early stages of my career with other designers and engineers, asking questions & learning over their shoulders was invaluable. I try to replicate with my mostly remote team now, but worry it’s not the same.
