@ChimeWhistle Also train companies know which routes get overcrowded. It’s not usually a massive surprise

Rail's turn up and go approach is one of its advantages over coach and air travel. If it loses that, say goodbye to a significant number of leisure travellers who don't decide until the day - having first checked the weather forecast etc.
Liam@liam43102

You cannot oversell a train. It’s like a bus. Other than advance fares which specify a particular service you must travel on, you can pick which train you want. Seat reservations are free. If people want the railways to operate like airlines they need to come out and say so.

@davidm_allan It's not a bad walk from Sunderland to Durham (although better starting at South Hylton) - did it in winter once, to fill a day where I couldn't be more ambitious, and was surprised by how much history there was along that stretch

How exciting to see the reducing role played by fossil gas in our grid. It's only spring..... when we have a sunny, windy day we will potentially see zero gas for a short period. Over time those periods will increase to hours, days and eventually, weeks.
National Energy System Operator@neso_energy

Yesterday #wind produced 61.2% of GB electricity followed by nuclear 12.8%, imports 8.3%, solar 7.2%, gas 7.0%, biomass 3.5%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation

@Hera_Aoe @redbullgaming With all respect, the Britons are great. I know this is kind of your thing and you are using knowledge rather than vibes, but who doesn’t love longbowmen 🙂

@JohnGorlewski @luxemiaa Monetizing this site without quality control has been a disaster. Everything good about social media gets sloppier and sloppier

@NfinityBL If someone wants the best the UK has to offer, go to a countryside pub specialising in food. It will cost a lot more than Nandos though

Today sees the official launch of the Coast to Coast Path as a National Trail. Here in the Dales we installed nearly 3km of stone flagging across notoriously boggy peatland, upgraded 10 bridges, and installed more than 40 new fingerposts. Watch the film 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=QnutN3…

Excited to see another GWR train is due though Winslow Station tomorrow - really hoping the Gov will let GWR run the East West Rail service as ⁦@chilternrailway⁩ has failed so dismally.

@siobhanworld @RichardPorteous Honestly I think he’d probably appreciate the social interaction. Maybe just briefly say “Gosh, what a coincidence we appear to be reading the same book! How’re you finding it?”

There’s a man sitting opposite on the train up to London who’s reading the same book as I am but we can’t acknowledge this because the rules of commuting do not allow interaction with other passengers.

@watergypsi It’s not negative because it’s a narrowboat - people are surprisingly negative about everything these days. Just mute, ignore and enjoy the positive replies, as annoying as it can be. Joy is still allowed 👍

@UtdFaithfuls The difference is, we know the real Garnacho. He's not a starter, so any tantrum he throws would just be a test to see how a clueless Rosenior handles it. It's United fans who were surprised by what they got in Mason Mount

Alejandro Garnacho has REMOVED his Instagram DP and cleared everything Chelsea from his bio. It has started. Chelsea fans are about to see the real Garnacho. 😂😂😂

@FayeBrownSky You needn’t worry about CfD impact - those will be handled post price formation

@FayeBrownSky Actually it’s pretty simple. Go back to having a centrally dispatched system as in the days of the pool. Since they are paying capacity payments you can effectively think of power as a franchised system, and make power a weighted average of cost. It would work okay

NEW: Ed Miliband has told Labour MPs he is committed to looking at decoupling electricity from gas prices, saying it is "complicated but possible". He is said to be looking at a report by Dale Vince, which warns govt's clean energy drive won't bring down bills while gas effectively sets the price of the wholesale market... news.sky.com/story/ed-milib…

@BernoulliDefect It’s because people have realized you can get away with small crimes (literal and social). My theory is that people are fundamentally just a bit selfish but conditioning from parents and society used to keep them more in line

We are at the point where every public transport journey in London has at least one person playing something out loud on their phone/having a speakerphone call. Why do we seemingly lack the social technology to prevent ~5% of everyone’s time being made so much worse?
