JITTER – Early Access Out Now! 🇺🇦
We're launching Early Access on November 6th because apparently deadlines exist. Is it done? No. Are we shipping it? Yes. There’s an open world now. Don’t ask how. Wishlist it. Or don’t. Chapter One launches either way. #jittergame

@Faxdocc This is so insanely impressive. I have to know, is this done using 3d under the hood?

@TinyBox11 yeah ive ditched Godot. love feels a lot more like gamemaker than godot, except with no editor, fewer helper functions (you gotta roll collisions yourself), and it is so much faster than both. it's really fun to play with and i feel very untethered compared to godot

@mirrutatep @gif_not_jif I think your right on this one. Pixel art is almost a medium more than a style imo, it should be allowed to be it's old thing with no expectations of emulating classic pixel art. That's why we have the descriptor "retro"

@gif_not_jif That’s cool and I’ve definitely felt that way before and it was reflected in my style. But that has since changed for me, I got a bit bored after a few years and wanted to try something new 😁

This comment on my work brings up an interesting question: Why do people still believe pixel art needs to be stylistically simple?

Experimenting with the color space. Thoughts??? I recently watched a documentary from the 70s. That inspired me to modify the color palette to reflect the color space of analog film. This isn't the final result, but I find the results interesting. Maybe a second option

A or B? A) Angle rotates in increments of 22.5 degrees B) Angle rotates full 360 degrees
Ian Fisch - Lead Coder on Kingmakers (wishlist!)@Ian_Fisch

@DirtyBeastGames I think jagged pixels are fine. I’m referring to the way the sprite’s rotation snaps to different values, as he runs down the curved section. It seems like it changes 15 degrees in a single frame. It might look nicer if it interpolates more gradually.

@2buckfridays It'd be cool if they are super super tough, but can damage each other - so the strat is to trick them into fighting eachother by missing you

Source Engine is like a well-tuned classic car—efficient, reliable, but not built for today’s highways. Unreal 5 is the flashy hypercar that looks amazing but needs a pit crew to run at 60fps. Honestly, both have their strengths, but maybe the real issue is devs chasing trends instead of optimizing what they’ve got. 🤷‍♂️
Johann@LookAtMyMeat1

>Valve creates one of the best engines on the market >barely anyone uses it >instead devs make games with Unreal Slop 5 that run at 20fps

writing a game engine isn’t the same as writing a book—more like building a printing press before writing the book. Not everyone has the resources, time, or luxury to reinvent the wheel when engines like Unity and Unreal exist to democratize game development.
notch@notch

Write your own game engine. Authors don't download a story template for their books then see how much they can be creative within those limits, they start from scratch. So can you. It's not difficult(*), and it makes for more interesting games. (* compared to making a game)

@_rubeki @notch Hard agree with this, I despise engine elitism. What's important is people are making their own games, anything that makes this accessible to more people is a good thing. Telling people to make their own engine is just so short sighted imo
