She grew up in Stockport, left school at 16 pregnant, worked as a carer, became a union organiser and rose to be Deputy Prime Minister. She is the bookmakers' 6/4 favourite to be the next Labour leader.
She is ferociously effective at PMQs, has genuine roots in working-class communities, and connects with voters that Starmer visibly struggles with.
Is she the future Labour needs?

I do not accept the claim that Keir Starmer is a liar. He is not. I have known him to be serious, measured, and guided by a strong sense of public duty.
We must challenge one another robustly on policy, but do it in a way that strengthens public confidence not erode it

@albieamankona If I do not pay NI I do not qualify for a pension. If I was contracted out because I had an occupational pension I have to pay extra NI years to qualify for a pension. When I get my pension it is exempt from NI. Why because I have paid for it!

Nobody has a “RIGHT” to a state pension.
It is a benefit paid for by the tax payers at the time you receive the benefit and it is subject to the same checks, balances and affordability criteria as every other benefit provided by the state.
Whoever told you national insurance was invested in a personal pension pot for you, lied. It’s a tax, like income tax, VAT et al.

These very nasty attacks on the state pension are unrelenting, particularly from this former Tory MP and @GBNEWS presenter. These people want it either scrapped altogether or only available to the very poorest. But all who have made the requisite National Insurance contributions have a RIGHT to a decent state pension. It’s a moral issue too. The elderly deserve a decent life in their remaining years. Indeed, looking after the elderly properly is the hallmark of a humane and civilised society. The anti-state pension activists are truly despicable.

@jonbrooks Well, my home will go to my kid so she can rent it out or sell it. Much of my retirement funds probably intact (living off the gains) & handed to her since my social security will be substantial enough to handle most of my bills, since I have no debt and pay cash for everything.
