Homelander's speed inconsistency in the Season 5 finale was one of the most annoying talking points for me too. Early on we see him casually yeeting to space and back in seconds, speed-blitzing people, yet in the final fight he's getting held down and can't just fly out or end it quick? It felt like they nerfed him hard for the plot. Kinda took me out of the moment. The ending was still brutal, but damn the powerscaling was all over the place.

Yes And wasn’t it noted that he can control the power of his laser? If he goes full power he can cut a supe in half Yet he hit her and Butcher in a situation he would not be pulling punches. They just arbitrarily nerfed him to fit story. IF they were gonna do this silly story point that Kimiko gets Soldier Boy’s power, it should have been, she gets injured and has to pull herself there as soldier boy kills everyone besides Hughie and Butcher. Make it a BIG spectacle and tragic as we watch the heroes go down. Then Butcher can kill Homelander. Then you still get the Hughie/Butcher ending from the comics.
