Dear ESA Families, I hope this email finds you all doing well and enjoying the beautiful Arizona spring. As the end of the school year approaches, we hope the Empowerment Scholarships that your students have been awarded have helped them to grow academically and personally. This program is so critical to providing the freedom and choice that all parents need to best cultivate their children’s learning and development. Unfortunately, there are critics who attack the program in ways that are misleading, dishonest, and intended to undermine the ESA program. One of the most consistent claims by critics is that the ESA program is rampant with fraud, waste, and abuse. One news outlet has claimed that the rate of improper spending in the Arizona ESA program is 20 percent.  That claim is completely false. The 20 percent misspending claim was the result of an intentional or unintentional misunderstanding of transaction data and a failure to comply with basic principles of statistics. Here is the truth. The Arizona Department of Education used its experts to conduct a statistical analysis on the rate of unallowable spending in the ESA program. The selection of a statistical sample conformed to strict statistical principles. What the analysis found was that the ESA program is not rampant with fraud, waste, and abuse. Instead, only 2 percent of dollars spent in the ESA program is on unallowable items. Two percent is a far cry from 20 percent. Two percent of spending on unallowable items likely makes the ESA program exemplary in the lineup of state-run social spending programs. However, although 2 percent is a low unallowable spending rate, rest assured that the ESA team will pursue repayment for any unallowable spending that it identifies. The very low rate of unallowable spending in the program in conjunction with the program’s robust student enrollment growth is the clearest evidence that the ESA program is healthy and strong. We will continue to make this program the best program that it can be to serve all of your students’ continued educational needs. Superintendent Horne has publicly announced this great news in a press release, which you can read here: ADE Corrects False Claim regarding alleged 20% inappropriate ESA expenditures | Arizona Department of Education. @ComicalRepub @TeamLloyd2015 @12News Yep. We have a story in the works. In fact, the top @azedschools expert -- Dr. Joseph Guzman -- said this to @12news: "I don't quibble with your number of 20 percent." He also said total misspending was under 2%, but he didn't dispute our reporting, based on ADE records.

Arizona classrooms see just .52 cents of every dollar spent on education. Where does the other $.48 go???

KATIE HOBBS WANTS YOU TO BELEIVE HER PAY TO PLAY SCANDALS ARE “JUST A DISTRACTION.” THREE INVESTIGATIONS SAY OTHERWISE. Shortly after winning the 2022 election, Katie Hobbs personally called the CEO of Sunshine Residential Homes — a company paid by the state to house foster children — and asked him to sponsor her inauguration. He wrote a $100,000 check. He then sat on her inaugural committee. His company separately gave $300,000 to the Arizona Democratic Party. $400,000 total. Months later, Hobbs' Department of Child Safety — run by her own appointee — granted Sunshine a rate increase that left them earning nearly 40% more per bed than any other group home in Arizona. Sixteen other providers were cut entirely. No other provider got a raise. Her own DCS director admitted the donations made the decision "uncomfortable" and would "raise suspicions." That's not a Republican talking. That's someone inside her administration, and a former Democratic lawmaker. When legislators introduced a bill requiring disclosure of donations to the sitting governor, Hobbs vetoed it — calling it "a political stunt." She then introduced her own transparency plan. But most of Sunshine Residential's donations were made outside the window her proposal covers, and her plan does not bar contributions made to political parties. Senator TJ Shope, who authored the original bill, says her proposal contains "nothing that would have prevented" the Sunshine situation and has major loopholes — most notably that it provides no visibility into donations made to entities like inaugural funds or legal defense funds. Funds exactly like the ones Sunshine wrote checks to. Multiple investigations are currently underway — including one by Arizona's own Democratic Attorney General. That same AG has since launched a joint reelection PAC with the woman she's supposed to be investigating. Watch her *attempt* to answer for her pay to play scheme.

No matter how Republicans try to spin it the SAVE Act is voter suppression. They know that their policies are deeply unpopular with the American people. So what are they doing? They’re trying to rig elections.

You would almost have credibility if you hadn’t lied for four years as 10,000,000 illegal aliens were let in. You claimed Biden couldn’t stop it without congress, you still haven’t apologized. Dems want them here, they give them licenses, count them for congressional rep, and clearly want them to vote.

Proud to have the support of the youngest member of Congress, @MaxwellFrostFL! Together, we’ve taken on corrupt billionaires, the Epstein class, and traveled to El Salvador to fight Trump’s unconstitutional deportations. Honored to serve alongside a champion and a true friend.

@RepGregStanton @SecRubio You got the memo on ‘war of choice’ Which is hilarious because you refuse to say if the strikes should have occurred or not. You just say they should’ve done better, with no details of how. Playing both sides and poorly

My constituents are furious. Trump’s war of choice in Iran is costing billions and has taken the lives of 13 American heroes so far. Now he is sending even more troops with no end in sight as gas prices surge. @SecRubio should testify before Congress immediately and answer to the American people.

US Oil & Gas Association
Hello Senator. This has already been pointed out but allow us to reemphasize that: 33% of Arizona’s gasoline — including the entire Phoenix refined products market — comes from California refineries via pipeline. With CA Democrat energy policy forcing the closure of major facilities, this dependency will mean higher prices & tighter supply ahead. Arizona has ZERO refineries of its own. With your military background - you of all people recognize that recent events have shown how unwise it is to allow an economy to be at risk of foreign choke points half way across the world. AZ is no different. We recommend AZ decouple itself from CA energy policy as soon as possible. Thank you for sharing your views. We will certainly keep them in mind.
Senator Mark Kelly@SenMarkKelly

This is from a gas station in Phoenix yesterday: $6.49 for a gallon of gas. All because Trump started war with no plan and no idea how it would affect everyday Americans. I'm fighting to suspend the federal gas tax to bring families some relief, but what they really need is a president focused on lowering their costs.

Emmanuel Clifford Damas' death was a clear case of medical negligence at the hands of ICE. I've called for an independent investigation into his death, including his medical examiner’s report, a complete timeline of his care, and all medical records from his time in custody.

Trump’s war sent gas prices soaring. I pushed to cut red tape and suspend burdensome fuel regulations to bring prices down faster. They listened and now Arizona families will pay less at the pump.

@azfamily There’s a crackdown on illegal immigration. The choice to change this is intentional and meant to confuse the reader.

@arizona_sos A few public schools are solid. And some families choose them. Some are awful. On average they’re bad. Families deserve to have a choice in how their child is educated.
