@TolentinoTeach All schools have to do is identify the abusers and take steps to stop their abuse, and teachers are eager to pass these names to admin, but what usually happens is a policy that curbs rights for all students instead. Admin does not want confrontation.

Most people who don’t work in schools can’t fully understand why teachers sometimes restrict bathroom use. From the outside, it gets framed as a “bathroom rights” issue, as if teachers are simply being unreasonable or dismissive of students’ needs. Here’s the reality: There are schools where students can use the bathroom freely with no problems. And there are schools where, if you allow unrestricted access, mayhem ensues. -Students leave for 40-minute stretches. -Student wander into other classrooms and throw water balloons. -Students vape. -Students meet each other and box in the bathroom (with gloves). -Students scream through the halls as they run past rooms. -I can go on with another 2,000 issues. What looks like a simple policy decision (from an adult's perspective) is actually quite complicated. Once again, if you are not working in a school--you probably don't get it, bruh.

@rastokke Holding bright students back has been deliberate policy for decades. What seems like incompetence is actually the result of calculation. If your goal is equity i.e. equal outcomes, and you need to minimize costs, this is the only way to achieve it.

New EEF study finds lower-attaining students are NOT harmed by ability grouping, but higher-attaining students are held back in mixed classes. Advanced students don't get enough attention in my view. What is the goal of public education? Getting all students to a minimum competency level has to be one goal. But is there not an obligation to provide an environment for students who have surpassed minimum competency to keep moving ahead? educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/news/high-atta…

@BillboardChris Land acknowledgements have filled the vacuum created by the removal of prayer and the national anthem from public events, in particular the beginning of public events. It's a shitty substitute.

@JCCFCanada Technically, straight white males can apply: anyone with a disabled placard would meet their threshold. It's what happens after that where it gets interesting. Does the selection process switch to merit? Or is it based on perceived level of "equity deserving"? (NDP equity cards)

Memorial University says criticism of its “equity-only” job postings, which ban straight white males from applying, is “misinformation.” But the university admits that these “equity” targets are in place. It argues that they are not unique to Memorial, and that all universities receiving funding for Canada Research Chair positions must demonstrate progress toward nationally established equity targets. This is wrong. Governments and taxpayer-funded institutions should hire based on merit alone. westernstandard.news/news/memorial-…

I HIGHLY recommend watching this episode. David Cross is that “nice guy” who doesn’t mean any ill intentions. He is just someone who doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. This interview (especially the part mentioned below) is the perfect encapsulation of living in a bubble. You can tell that he hasn’t heard an alternative view in at least the last 20 years. It is an example of what will be the norm during to algorithms. They have no interest in the truth. They only have interest in keeping you glued to your phone. And the easiest way to do that is to feed you what you want. This goes both ways. As I’ve said before, this is a major danger.

"Canadians have chosen pain over prosperity. Most don’t realize it yet, but that’s the path they’ve taken. Turning our backs on the most powerful economy in history is beyond comprehension—and it will make things even more challenging for our farmers and Canada’s agri-food sector." It's like we're children. You don't poll Canadians to ask them if they want a deal with the U.S. after "elbows up" propaganda. You fix the relationship with the U.S. and make damn well sure you get the best deal you can for Canada. That starts by acknowledging how the Liberals damaged this relationship, starting with Trudeau.
wealthmoose@wealthmoose

🇨🇦 Scott Reid just revealed the Liberals are polling to see if Canadians want a U.S. trade deal. This is what "ideology over economy" looks like. We’ve been so conditioned by anti-American rhetoric that we’re debating if we should even have an economy at all. I’m losing my mind watching this. 🤦‍♂️🇨🇦 #CDNpoli #PierrePoilievre #EconomicCrisis #Canada

Soy profesor universitario hace más de treinta años. En efecto, he notado que los estudiantes cada vez van menos a clase. Hay muchas razones, pero la principal es que a menudo no aprenden nada en ellas. La universidad está llena de profesores desmotivados que no enseñan.

When I was in England last summer the mechanic working on our narrow boat thought we were Americans. I politely said we were “Americans” but Canadian citizens not US citizens. His response was hilarious: “You’re Canadian? You poor bastard. You got Carney. How could your country be so stupid?”. I laughed. He laughed. We shot the shit on the edge of the dock for a little while and he wished me well. The English know. Too bad Canadians have to learn shit the hard way.

"The share of U.S.-bound Canadian travellers heading to Florida increased. 'Florida’s market share of Canadian travellers to the U.S. was 16.8%. In 2025 it was 19.8%. It went up.' Why? 'Because Florida is that reliably fun destination,' said @BryanDGriffin. Of course return visits to Florida are 'very popular' with Canadians. Plenty of new-to-Florida travellers are arriving from Canada too. Whether vacationers are first-timers or perennial visitors, @VISITFLORIDA is focused on showcasing ‘the new in the known,’ combing iconic highlights with unexpected discoveries."

@FloridaTourism @BryanDGriffin 2025 overall Florida visits from Canada are down 17% compared to 2024 (3.4 million down to 2.9 million), but this decline is lower than the decline in visits to other states, thus increasing the percentage share of Canadian visits by state. Reason: Canadians own property there.

@squarepianocase @rastokke Yes and anyone who's been in the system long enough knows that's the only way to keep schools honest and prevent runaway mark inflation and promotion passing. School board officials, most of whom fled the classroom at the first opportunity, think they know better. They don't.

@DPinxton @rastokke Sidelining of public exams has a long history! ~30 years ago, NL public exam results were used to do actual curve adjustment based on regional/school results. That is - the province overwrote your school assigned grades, as well as just giving a grade on the public.

@terrynewman I don't see how you can be Canadian and not take what the U.S. has said, done, and threatened to do personally - as a Canadian. Carney is reflecting the majority of Canadian sentiment. Those Canadians who love Trump more than they do their own country are too far gone to help.

"There are other economies who decided to make it personal.. I think Carney has made it personal. I think it's political malpractice for the PM of Canada to pit politically himself against any president, and I don't care who the president is... it's political malpractice... Canada is depedent upon the U.S. economy... that's just a fact... the fundamental fact is geography wins out. "
cbcwatcher@cbcwatcher

ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH CLIP... Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer on USMCA "They can have a weak economy that is underperforming and not doing well, and Carney can feel superior." "Or they can have an economy that participates with as a partner of the U.S. economy." "And Carney can do what a grownup should do, which is figure out." "...It's my job as a person who's supposed to protect Canadian jobs and Canadian citizens and the Canadian economy to not let my ego and my feelings dictate what's best for my own economy." Q "Do you think this will have implications for the USMCA?" Switzer "Yeah, of course it is..." "Look, was Ambassador Greer in Canada? Did he meet with Carney? No." "...The grownups are in the room talking because there's a grown up in the presidency in leadership there, and I would argue there's not a grown up in Canada in charge there." "You don't go out of your way to antagonize the leader of the country that you are absolutely existentially tied to." "It's just political malpractice." @markjcarney
