Funny enough if you look at history most of the time they did pay for them with guns and liquor so that they could go fight the other tribes and then sell them as slaves in both the European and Islam slave trade. Honestly, African history with outside forces is insanely complex, not just... what Hollywood traditionally shows. Heck, did you know it was actually rare for Europeans to set foot in African soil over the fact that they could barely survive walking in the terrain so they just hired tribes around the oceans to guide some in or just do the whole things for them.

Spider-Man 3 originally had a deleted scene where Flint disguises himself as a sandcastle so his daughter could still play with him. It was meant to show that beneath Sandman’s monster-like appearance, he was still just a desperate father trying to save Penny. Sony cut it.

I still love Isekai, but there are too many of them and the worst part is that a lot of them do not need to be Isekai, MC never addressed his past life, never used his knowledge from past life and it was completely ignored for the entire anime. The Isekai trope was put there just so it has an Isekai tag. Shows like Frieren, Sentence to be A Hero or Apothecary Diaries show that you can have Fantasy Story without Isekai trope.
