The primary demo to which you’d want to aim this project has mostly passed on. The number of people still actively watching it is a fraction of what it once was.

I might disappoint some people with this take, but I don’t hate it yet. It could absolutely turn out terrible, and I get why so many are instantly against it. Still, part of me is curious if they can actually make something that's competently written and entertaining.

@PopcastGuys @kirkneverdied At 31, I watched this with my wife and kids and it was glorious. I lampooned it and made fun of it until I became a fan. I feel this series is a terrible idea. Recasting it is terrible. So do my adult children. Those films were their Star Wars. This should have been animated.

@kirkneverdied I was 27 when the first movie came out and the magic was mostly lost to me. So, I personally don't feel like it needs a TV reboot, but perhaps folks in their 30s feel differently...

@BradRTorgersen There was some dislike.But the overwhelming majority of viewers liked it.If that weren’t the case,the ratings would have collapsed and Paramount TV would have shut it down after season 1.Instead the ratings were huge.This caused a wave of shows rushing into first run syndication

It's true that there was a lot of fan skepticism surrounding TNG, but that skepticism gradually dissipated because episodes like "Heart of Glory" and "Measure of a Man" were superbly written. Also, the people involved in the production clearly loved the lore of the series (as established in prior films, as well as TOS) in a way that was palpable. Fans respect a production that respects the source code. SFA not only didn't respect the source code, it happily spited the fans who complained.

And when the Next Gen came out; there was tons of hate because it “wasn’t Star Trek” and the cast probably was in fear from the fans. Again when the series with Bakula came out, it too was panned by the fans because it “wasn’t Star Trek.” Star Trek is different for everyone. 🤷🏼
