World Cup 2010 Round of 16: 🇩🇪 Germany 4-1 England 🇬🇧 Klose, Podolski, Müller, and one goal that was never recognized (Lampard 2-1). One night that proved: sometimes football is cruel. Germany finally qualified for the semifinals, England went home with a broken heart. Who is still hurt by the referee until now? 😅

@SamOpina_ Possibly best goal of the 2014 edition... However, there has been better goals in other World Cups.. I've been seeing World Cups since 1990... Baggio vs Czech in 90.. Al Owairan vs Belgium in 1994, Bergkamp vs Argentina in 1998.. are all possibly better goals..

What Mamata Banerjee couldn’t do in 15 years, Suvendu Adhikari and the BJP government have delivered in just 15 days. 🚇 RVNL has successfully completed the long-delayed girder launching work at the Chingrighata crossing section of Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line, ahead of schedule. This 366-metre missing link is critical for completing the New Garia-Airport Metro corridor, which will connect Kolkata’s southern suburbs with the IT hub in Sector V. Why was this project stalled for years? Because the Mamata Banerjee government repeatedly denied permission for traffic diversion. RVNL had only sought night traffic blockades over two successive weekends to complete the work. The moment the political obstruction ended, the work moved at speed. For years, Bengal was told delays were “technical”. Turns out, the biggest technical problem was the TMC government itself.

@openletteryt So easy to forget that he had his hands in the same cookie jars as all other TMC leaders in the Narada / Sarada scams. He jumped ship when ED / CBI came calling. And then became the very force to bring about the downfall of TMC.

He was once inside the TMC, Mamata Banerjee’s right-hand man, someone who knew the party’s machinery inside out. Then, at the peak of his rise, he walked out, joined the BJP, and became a giant slayer. First, he defeated Mamata Banerjee from her own seat. Then, when she moved back to her hometown, he followed her there too, and defeated her again. Today, Suvendu Adhikari stands as the man who led the BJP to a victory in Bengal that would have sounded impossible a decade ago. He is now set to become the next Chief Minister of West Bengal. For a state scarred by political violence, stolen elections, bomb attacks, vendetta politics, and fear, this feels like a new beginning. I hope this beginning becomes the end of it all. And one more thing must end with urgency: the unchecked illegal immigration enabled by Bengal’s porous border with Bangladesh. It is a real threat, and it needs to be dealt with firmly, seriously, and immediately.

Do you know that Kolkata has never faced a terrorist attack like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, or Bangalore? There was only one major terror attack, that too on the American Center in 2002, nothing specifically against Bengal. Whatever the reason may be, terrorists have never targeted Kolkata the way they targeted other major Indian cities.

Bundles of white sarees were found inside a TMC office. This is not just about sarees. In 2024, in Sandeshkhali, a white saree and flowers were sent to a BJP worker’s home with the message, “You say Hari, I will say Hari Bol,” a slogan chanted during funeral processions. In February 2026, in Birbhum, a white saree, flowers, and agarbatti were sent to a BJP worker’s home with the same message. White sarees are worn by widows. By sending white sarees, TMC gives the message that they will kill your husband and make you a widow. TMC is more criminal than you can imagine.

In an epic admission, after TMC leader Anubrata Mandal said that the party could hardly win 15–16 seats in the first phase of the elections, TMC’s Sagardighi candidate Byron Biswas has now declared that he is going to lose. He also listed the names of TMC candidates (including sitting MLAs) who are likely to lose. He further stated that the central forces managed the election extremely well, leaving the party with little chance of winning, and added that he has no idea how TMC will perform in the state overall.

Exactly 18 years to the day that the Kolkata Knight Riders played Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first ever IPL match. So many memories, the junior Bengal players staring wide eyed at the pre-game fireworks, the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders show, the slack jawed look on Sourav’s face when Brendon actually mis-hit a six over third man, Brendon smashing three sixes off Praveen Kumar's final over, Shahrukh in the dressing room having a long conversation with Ricky Ponting, Buchanan grunting ‘I think we’ve got enough’ when Brendon took it past 200. Ishant crashing through Dravid's defence, Agarkar knocking over Kallis and Cameron White, and LR Shukla finishing things off by getting Sunil Joshi, appropriately enough caught by McCullum And then the post game party. Shahrukh traveling on the team bus, (he came just one minute late and apologized to everybody for the delay) and Sourav having a long conversation with him about his favourite co-star. Landing up at UB City for the party and finding amazing arrangements but no Vijay Mallya - we had a blast anyway. Brendon’s electrifying show, Ajit’s three wickets, Ishant’s hostile spell and the prospect of Gayle joining the party in a few days. It seemed such a dream then! The picture is from a few days later, a home match, and you can see aside from @iamsrk and the architect of the league, @LalitKModi, close friends and former colleagues @adrian_leroux(now with the Indian team) and @aleipus, (now with @PunjabKingsIPL)

Three years ago, I was at the Lemon Tree Bengaluru for the Volleyball League. And every morning I would finish breakfast & pop out to reception to pick up a copy of the TOI and the Economic Times. After watching me the first two days, this charming lady on duty would see me and immediately pick them out to give me. One day, I just wanted the TOI, as the crossword then did not appear in the Sunday ET, and when she came with both, I told her I didn't need the ET. She refused to understand, & didn't want to take back the other paper. And then I realized that like my darling son Neel and all in the autism spectrum, she struggled when a set routine was disrupted. I apologized immediately, took the ET as well & was rewarded with a smile that just blew me away. Thank you Lemon Tree Hotels for making a workplace for all. You have a supporter & customer for life
Aditya Kondawar@aditya_kondawar

The most radical innovation at Lemon Tree Hotels had nothing to do with room design or pricing. It was about who stood behind the reception desk, who cleaned the rooms, and who served breakfast In a dialogue between the HR department and the CMD, Patu Keswani, they decided to hire 2 differently-abled people. "It was an experiment. The team was not sure how the new staff members would integrate with the rest of the team or if they could do the job," says Aradhana. The impact of this small gesture was apparent when Mr. Keswani was approached by a very emotional mother of one of these persons with an invitation to attend his wedding. The possibility of this nuptial would have been negligible if the boy had no job. By merely giving an opportunity, everything changed. And, the business continued to gain from the services of 20+ differently-abled resources. Since that day, there has been no looking back. What started as an experiment evolved into one of the most ambitious inclusion programs in the global hospitality industry. Currently, ~13% of Lemon Tree employees are from this disadvantaged segment of the population, although the company targets and often achieves a rate closer to 20% in many properties. "This is not charity, it is our business model" became Lemon Tree's mantra. The numbers backed it up. Employees with disabilities showed lower attrition rates (12% v/s industry avg of 50%). They demonstrated higher loyalty, better attendance, and often superior performance in their designated roles. The deaf employees in housekeeping communicated through visual cues and checklists, often resulting in more thorough cleaning. Staff with Down syndrome, working in consistent routines, excelled in laundry and food service roles. Lemon Tree Hotels has been presented the National Award by the President of India for 'Best Employer of Persons with Disabilities' in 2016 and 2011, and a third National Award in 2012 for being a 'Role Model in providing a Barrier Free Environment to Persons with Disabilities'. The business case was compelling. In an industry plagued by 50-100% annual turnover, Lemon Tree's inclusive hiring created a stable, dedicated workforce. Training costs dropped. Service consistency improved. And something unexpected happened—guests noticed. The genuine warmth from employees who had been given opportunities they couldn't find elsewhere created an authenticity that no amount of hospitality training could replicate. The ripple effects went beyond the hotels. Lemon Tree partnered with NGOs to create training programs. They developed visual communication systems that became industry standards. They proved that infrastructure changes for accessibility—ramps, visual alerts, modified workstations—cost less than the savings from reduced turnover. By making inclusion a business strategy rather than a CSR initiative, Lemon Tree didn't just change lives—it changed the economics of hospitality employment in India. This is awesome! Aadhaar is linked to PAN. Aadhaar is linked to ration cards. Aadhaar is linked to bank accounts. Aadhaar is linked to gas connections. Aadhaar is linked to mobile numbers. Aadhaar is linked to job attendance. Aadhaar is mandatory for govt schemes. But Aadhaar is NOT linked to Voter ID. Why? One simple link could stop double and triple voting. Transparency is crying in the corner 😄 Every country works with one primary ID. Why do we need so many?
