@Fanverleon I don't think Lotus Breach can afford Pyretic Ritual and I also don't think Ruby Storm Is that much better than Lotus Breach, which got Brain Freeze too. Ruby Storm Is also more fragile because It relies on having 2 drops on the field.

Ok so either i suck at Deckbuilding, i am missing something from the Spy deck or the Culling Ritual Turbo decks suck ass. I have NEVER done a T1 or T2 win with anything.
Legit, playing Ritual in Yawgmoth might Just be the move.

Maffi The Magic Muffin@MaffiMTG
@AlthMtg Actually potentially Turn 1 with Ornithopter. It's not a direct win but in most cases It Is i think. Historic might be Cooked.
English

@MaffiMTG I wouldnt go as far to say that they properly tested historic. I think culling ritual will be fine because the turbo variants are too inconsistent and even in yawgmoth there arent a lot of outlets for specifically black mana. I am more really scared of pyretic ritual with breach
English

@Fanverleon I think Ritual in Yawgmoth Is the way, you have the consistency of Yawgmoth with the random burst of mana to cheese wins. Otherwise i'd have to admit that they actually tested Historic this time.

#mtg #SecretsOfStrixhaven ARENA SET REVIEW THREAD! This time multiple threads for all the "new to Arena" cards.
- Every Mythic and Rare, only relevant Cards (in my opinion) for the rest
- Standard, Pioneer (lmao), Historic, Timeless and BRAWL now (if relevant)
English

@LinkofSunshine Vintage: worse than treasure cruise and dig through time
Commander: this type of card draw is not needed
English

@LinkofSunshine the playability of flow state by format
Standard: outcompeted by stock up and consult the star charts
Pioneer: played but not broken in phoenix doesn’t see play in other decks
Modern: worse than the legal expressive iteration
Legacy: really strong and a potential staple
English

@LinkofSunshine Rare instance of the alpha printing not being the most iconic
English

@SaffronOlive I had been looking forward to when we finally get to see red aggro
English

On Monday Best Standard Deck Ever gets aggro with Ramunap Red from 2017 taking on Izzet Cutter from 2025! What's your pick?
Ramunap Red: #paper" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mtggoldfish.com/deck/7586487#p… Izzet Cutter: #paper" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mtggoldfish.com/deck/7586525#p…
English

@MaffiMTG @TrueNameAdam The one I always recommend as a budget option is auras
English

@TrueNameAdam There are Budget decks to get into the format, Izzet Wizards Is probably the best one to build for cheap and later upgrade, but tbh if you are not willing to grind A LOT, you're screwed. Expecially since they started adding all the Commander cards.
English

Jumping into Historic in #mtgarena is bruuuutal for deck building. I’ve been playing on arena for a long time. Only playing historic because it’s the format for qualifier weekend. I’ve already spent $150 on packs I do not want to try to get enough wild cards to brew decks. Am I missing something or does WoTC have a loooong way to go to make arena approachable for older formats?
English

@WrzoBuMTGO @fireshoes @Xerk_MTGO @BigBossAardos How does the dimir matchup feel? This seems targeted towards jund and affinity but not sure how it fares vs just a simple psychic frog

After years of #hardTesting® this is my weapon of choice for the upcoming historic QW:

@MaxImpactGames @ThrabenU Oh I misread missing the “can’t” oops. I think the condition requiring two cards even if it is relatively easy to get them in there makes it a little worse overall but I still think it’s great and might break the format.
English

@Fanverleon @ThrabenU It's not a worse expressive iteration, it's better. Both have the same fail state, and look at the same number of cards, but this one puts both in hand, where the second EI card requires different sequencing and harder deck building requirements than "play cantrips"
English

This is the first eyebrow raising card from Strixhaven for #mtglegacy purposes. Legacy tends to break when blue decks get access to inexpensive card draw (Treasure Cruise, Dig through Time, EI, etc.). This could be a format changing card. Be ready to test this one!

English

@MaxImpactGames @ThrabenU Well expressive iteration is banned so a slightly worse expressive iteration would be really strong
English

@ThrabenU Can't imagine it isn't an upgrade from even Expressive Iteration. Those decks already are playing surveil lands and Ponder effectively as part of their mana bases, plus it sidesteps Bowmasters.

@dialgatime321 @DavidVivia55726 @madballs3000 @kuihman i think calling him clout hungry is a little funny because relative to other live streamers he is almost clout averse like he barely interacts with other content creators which is by far the best way to grow an audience. He also doesnt really self promote or engage in drama
English

@DavidVivia55726 @madballs3000 @kuihman @DavidVivia55726 Almost all livestreamers are clout-hungry, bias streams towards popular topics, & want ur money. Prolly half are sexual degens too just more competent at hiding it (lookin at Destiny or The Quartering)
But Vaush is openly selfaware about it & has SOME principles
English

@Kapala_mtg if you ever want some arena testing always feel free to reach out :D
English

@Kapala_mtg @PKDAmateur Honestly I am in a similar boat but jewel has never been legal in a modern power level format that and displaced kitten makes me want to at least try it. I am skeptical but it is at least good to brew with.
English

@PKDAmateur @Fanverleon yup, that's what I thought about the card too
English

@Osmtgfan @SaffronOlive its a rough situation because every deck was built with the specific rules around its creation in mind. its just that if you dont then some decks become directly nonfunctional which isnt truly fair and the spirit of the tournament.
English

@SaffronOlive This is bad idea to just pick and choose rules like this.
For example with The Deck; rules when the deck was built was that tapped blocking creatures did not deal combat damage. When this rule was removed it made Mishra's Factory much more powerful.
Will you use that rule too?
English

We've decided that for the Best Standard Deck Ever tournament that if an old deck was built specifically to abuse a rule that existed at the time but doesn't exist now, we'll let that deck play by that rule.
This is especially relevant for The Deck, which had a gameplan of going to zero life and then using Mirror Universe to swap life totals with the opponent because the rule at the time was that you wouldn't die (even at zero life) until the end of the phase.
That rule might also matter for Channel Fireball (which could technically pay to zero life with Channel and then cast Fireball to win/draw the game.)
We're only doing this for rules that were essential to a deck's gameplan and we're not playing by all the old rules, only using the specific one that matters to the deck.
