@brianjohnspencr Here is the article for you Brian because you obviously didn't read it. Says nothing about a sham economy. A mismanagement of public funds yes.

Independent Ireland
Independent Ireland@independent_ire·
INDEPENDENDENT IRELAND STATEMENT: Independent Ireland will fully support proposed motion of no confidence in Government This Government has failed to listen and failed to address the concerns of people across Ireland. This is not limited to hauliers, farmers, and contractors, but extends to hard-working people throughout the country who continue to struggle under the policies of this and previous governments. There is a growing sense that taxpayers’ money is not being used effectively, and a sense that the Government continues to be led by unelected bureaucrats in Europe rather than listening to the people who elect them. The discontent around the country is not solely about fuel prices. It reflects broader concerns — and the ongoing failure to address so many issues affecting communities in both rural and urban Ireland. Crucially, there has been a continued failure to listen to those communities. People feel ignored and disconnected from decision-making processes that directly impact their daily lives.. The handling of the protests has been tone-deaf, condescending, and, at times, inflammatory rather than conciliatory. For these reasons, and many others, we believe this Government has failed, and we have no confidence in its ability to continue @ciaranmullooly @RichardODonoghu @kenoflynnTD @MichaelC_IND_TD

@Muinchille Not to mention the near criminal VRT rates on new cars making them the most expensive in Europe.

The government and its friends are the beneficiaries of some of the highest VAT rates in the EU, the highest personal tax rates, the highest CGT rates, the highest stamp duties as well as extortionate excise duties. It's unfortunate we can't stop the country and throw them off.

A busy and skilled carpenter/tradesman from Galway made this observation to me this morning and it struck me as likely true. He said he believes regular people did not realise that the price of [fuel], at the pump was more than double what it should be due to taxes collected by the Irish government. He said even if he had heard it before, he would have dismissed it as an exaggeration. Now everyone realises what has been going on and they’re not going to agree to back down on the demand that it be cut. #FuelProtest

@ProfPatOConnor @MichealMartinTD They are all purchased under finance. To pay back those finance loans they are put to work. Unfortunately they guzzle fuel. Fuel costs are crippling farmers and hauliers to an extent that they are struggling to make repayments. That's what's its al about.

Does anyone believe that the holding of the country to ransom by those who have large expensive modes of transport is REALLY about the price of petrol/diesel?? The triumph of might over everyone else’s lives/health … @MichealMartinTD

@JasonLawlor1003 @PMc276 More sexual offences are committed by white Irish males. You may try and make the argument that we shouldn't import more, but white Irish males are committing crimes across the world. The common denominator is males, not skin colour

There is no New Ireland, there is no blend of unionism and nationalism being proposed. During Brexit there was an attempt to repackage Irish nationalism as a return to EU membership. The fundamentals remained the same - "Ireland united, Gaelic and free (from Britishness)".
The Irish News@irish_news

"I can easily outline what kind of New Ireland I would like, but no more than that. After all, I won’t have any hand in its design. "And unfortunately, the possible and wannabe designers/influencers haven’t shown the slightest inclination to share their ideas with the rest of us. At least not any positive ideas." @AndyBelfast I think its the fact we wouldn't bow down and eventually took our country (most of it anyway) back is the issue.

@FatherStone4 Probably because we’re fed up hearing the sanitised, one-sided, myopic views of Irish history pedalled by nationalists.

@JohnOBrennan2 I wouldn't take it too seriously. A typical comment from someone who left the country 20 years ago and who comes home now and again to pat the rest of us on the head!

@GreigStewart1 @eighticusAce @LansdowneRD_IE Trick or treat if I remember correctly. The worst of the sectarian bile happened during the team warm ups. 2fm reporter Brenda Donoghue had to leave the ground because of the abuse. There were monkey chants towards Paul McGrath and Terry Phelan. A dark stain on NI football.

"'And Up Yours As Well' At Windsor Park in 1993, Billy Bingham was still stung by the chant of “One Team in Ireland” that had echoed around Dublin during his side’s 3-0 mauling seven months earlier. Determined to spark a response, he tried to rally the home crowd before kick-off—though, in truth, they needed little encouragement. That effort, however, did not sit well with many in the south, who have never quite forgiven him for it. During the match itself, tensions spread on the touchline. One of the Northern Ireland players directed a blunt “up yours” at Maurice Setters—hardly shocking by modern standards, but still. After the final whistle, Jack Charlton was furious about the incident and went looking to confront Bingham. His intention, as he later explained, was to complain that one of Bingham’s players had insulted Setters during the game: 'one of your players shouted 'up yours' at Maurice during the game.' But instead found Bingham and blurted out: 'And Up Yours As well! Well, that's Jack's version 🤣 #legend
