Several Labour MPs attributed the war in Ukraine partly to NATO's expansion. On February 18, 2022, a group of MPs, including John McDonnell @johnmcdonnellMP, Diane Abbott @HackneyAbbott, Richard Burgon ,@RichardBurgon, Ian Lavery @IanLaveryMP, Beth Winter @BethWinterCynon, Zarah Sultana @zarahsultana, Bell Ribeiro-Addy @BellRibeiroAddy, Apsana Begum @ApsanaBegumMP, Mick Whitley @MickWhitleyMP, Tahir Ali @TahirAliMP, and Ian Mearns @IanMearnsExMP, signed a Stop the War Coalition statement. The statement criticised the British government’s "aggressive posturing" and called for NATO to halt its eastward expansion, implying it contributed to the crisis! @Nigel_Farage has been open and honest while these @UKLabour MPs have simply had their mouths taped shut. This exchange was one of the most chilling things I've seen on TV. Over-sensitive, narcissistic victimhood personified. It was scary because being accused of something you haven't done taps into a very primal human fear. What a shame. This young woman's career has just come to a juddering halt. @fredsirieix1 seems like a kind and confident man who was genuinely hurt by the accusation that he'd been deliberately cruel.
