I have a feeling he didn't really change, remember that old Mustang used his French voice strictly during shows, and on present days he uses his French voice all the time? This means he puts on a mask 24/7 now. His methods perhaps changed but his objectives hadn't changed - he does everything to satisfy his own needs, which is money and influence.
