I asked this question of @MattMahanSJ, who's running for governor. I was like, dude, where'd the $14 billion go? Yeah, that went into that high speed rail project. There was like, no, it's a high speed rail, but there's no rail. There's nothing $14 billion. I'm like, whose pocket is that money in? Everyone should ask that question of your government, of your elected officials, of your politicians, of your leaders. Where the hell did the money go? And in many cases you'll find that it just went to create wealth for a few people that are cronies or thieves or that stole it, or it was used to create fake jobs that aren't productive. Meaning no one's making anything, they're just taking money and living off of that money from the government. And both of those are not what was promised when people pay taxes and the government says it's gonna do a service. We need to hold the government accountable to do the service, and that just doesn't happen. So I think Nick Shirley holds the government accountable. I think there are dozens of copycats, which I frigging love. And show the crazy sh*t that's going on and ask the tough questions. Run the audits. Treasury in the federal government should be running the audits and figuring out where all the money go."

NEWS: Southwest Airlines has just announced that it will install @Starlink across its entire fleet. The first Starlink-equipped aircraft will enter service this summer, and it will be available on more than 300 aircraft by the end of 2026. Starlink Wi-Fi will be free for all passengers. “Starlink delivers that at-home experience in the air, giving Customers the ability to stream their favorite shows from any platform, watch live sports, download music, play games, work, and connect with loved ones from takeoff to landing,” said Tony Roach, Executive Vice President, Chief Customer & Brand Officer at Southwest Airlines.

@chamath @JonathanRoss321 👏👏👏 I had enough conviction to put a few dollars into the Series B back in March 2024 after hearing Chamath talk about Groq on All In — the only mistake was not to follow-on when given the opportunity. Lesson learned: Let your winners ride!

Taken Sep 1, 2016 when @JonathanRoss321 convinced me we could take on the giants, build new silicon and that AI was coming. In typical SV fashion, we didn’t even have a company yet - just a term sheet from me to invest and the three of us. I spent the next month recruiting as many of the TPU team from Google Wisconsin as I could. “Welcome to chips”, I thought.
The company, as with all important companies, went through its own trials and tribulations including promoting Jonathan from CTO to CEO and the inevitable falling out and repair of his and my relationship. Anyways, it all happened for a reason.
Today we close this almost decade chapter and Jonathan starts a new one with nVidia.
I can’t thank him enough.
Sometimes it’s simply better to be lucky than good and be fortunate enough to work with great people and follow them into battle. That is me here.
Jonathan was not only the father of TPU when he was at Google but he is a technical genius of biblical proportions. He also assembled a great team with folks like @sundeep and @GavinSherry to back him up. They will also do incredible things at nvidia.
Separately, whenever something I’m involved in either crashes or wins, I reread my thoughts when I first did it. Was it luck? Was it skill? What did I learn? What do I do now?
YMMV, but I am attaching the original investment memo I wrote a decade ago.
I’ll do a more substantive view on why this deal matters and what my guess is about the future of AI silicon from here on an upcoming episode of the pod.
