Under both Obama and Biden, there was a massive push to gut our long-term logistics and warfighting capabilities for supposed short-term financial gains. This was a lie.
They just took the money and shoved it into other short-term projects that routinely failed anyway. The result was both massively reduced capabilities and no new replacements. The Army, for example, has been trying for over 20 years to build a new light tank and keeps failing. The Air Force is trying to gut its aircraft fleet to prop up F-35 acquisitions, resulting in a smaller and less capable Air Force. The Navy has sloganized its drive to gut itself with a “Divest to Invest” strategy that just ends up with a smaller and less capable Navy.
Money isn’t the issue; Congress is more or less willing to write a blank check to all the service branches. The issue is a now 15-year-long effort to slowly shrink the military at all costs by Obama and Biden appointees—a quiet but irreversible managed decline from within.
I should heap a lot of blame onto Clinton for cutting our military in half in the 1990s, but he didn’t leave a lingering toxic rot the way the Obama administration did.
