@JayLongWrites It’s sad to see books slowly disappearing , mostly computers now and many libraries are closing .

I miss going to the library as a kid and even a younger adult. There was just something about it... the feel... the smell... the overall atmosphere. It was my first recreational drug of choice. 📚📚📚

It's not necessarily social media by itself. It's a platform of followers of any nature. Whether thats social media, or from a website, or newsletter, or any number of ways. But yes, a following is definitely an advantage. And that's simply because it's a built-in group of people who have shown interest in you and what you write. You're not reinventing the wheel with them. You're just rolling out new rims.

I didn't really think about what it was going to take actually get people to read my book until after I published my first one. Which was less than a month ago. I'm a little disappointed as it is dawning on me that much of it has to do with a social media presence, which is not something I've ever purposely tried to cultivate before. In fact, it's something that I've definitely shied away from. I expected to join x and find all these readers, but instead I'm finding all these other authors. Which is really great, and I'm learning. But I can't tell if it's better or worse. My question is, how critical is social media really it comes to marketing your book? Is it a necessary evil in this day and age? Or is there some other pipeline that I'm not aware of?

You can tell it’s written by AI when it says “it’s not just “this” - it’s “this” For example: “it’s not just survival, it’s instinct” Or whatever. I guarantee you will now start seeing this robotic text formula everywhere, if you haven’t already noticed it.

Told my 5yo daughter a bit about my book and she’s like, “that’s what you named her? We should change this. Also she shouldn’t die. It’ll make your readers too sad.” If you need sharp editorial advice she is free every day after kindergarten

@author_clentz Yes. Being an indie writer is like being a small business. Invest in yourself. You'll have more freedoms in the long run, and as many can attest, our goals as a self-published author changes--even if right now the thought is KDP only.

The book 1984 is a banned book. Does that mean you can't acquire it anywhere? No, that's not the definition of 'banned'. Some people think that a banned book is a book that is unavailable anywhere by law. That's not true. Banned just means officially prohibited by some authority, a government, a school, even a local library. If any of them decide that a book is unfit for inclusion due to its content, that makes it banned. Here's hoping my book gets banned someday! If your book doesn't make somebody angry, maybe try harder! :)

My cat will randomly start meowing like crazy from another room in the house and wait for me to say “What, baby? What’s wrong?”. Then she’ll run to me and want cuddles. So silly.

@JasonWMizer It's crazy how just looking at different things can change the algorithm so quickly and takes forever to get back. I recently was replying to some music and sports-related posts and the writing community seemed to disappear.
