@derekfries81 @keewa But at most, the US would be going up and down in the top 10 football nations, with a chance of winning a world cup once every 12 years, just ask Brazil.

@derekfries81 @keewa Exactly my point, the US cared, the rest of the world didn't. And I do not disagree if Football became a religion in the US, the US would become a powerhouse. It happens with most top nations.

Robert Kroese@robkroese

The restriction against using your hands also seems too arbitrary. Americans don't like arbitrary rules. Closest thing I can think of in a popular American sport is the restriction on traveling in basketball. Every other rules has a rationale other than "it makes the game harder"

@azuberryberry it's funny how Neymar is like the prime example of both excessive flopping, and how even a small foul can ruin careers

@LattimerSt2266 @kingbolby Those low crosses close the goal line are one of the highest xG opportunities in modern football. But hell, you probably don't even know what xG is.

@LattimerSt2266 @kingbolby That was not chance, its positioning causing forced errors on the defense. If def did not intervene, Pepi would have scored from Balougun's cross. It was Pepi's determination to fight the low cross that caused that error. Clear example that you don't understand the game at all.

@RobertM55403491 @DifferentKaro Which is what they are doing right now, 3 min penalized leaving their team down one player. Kind of like a powerplay in hockey. Oh, but 4 hours of commercials is fucking awesome.

@DifferentKaro No, faking as though youre dying and then popping up a second after the ruling makes soccer unwatchable. At least take them out of the game for like 10 minutes. Either they’re really injured and should be out or they’re faking and should be penalized. 99% of the time it’s fake

Not this guy saying American football is better because they don't "fake their injuries", the same sport that their ex-players started dying from concussion mid-life? I don't know, maybe it's better to fake injuries and be careful and caution other to be careful, than a sport that doesn't just care about players health as long as it entertains them.

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

@derekfries81 @keewa Womens football is not a valid comparison when mostly all powerhouses did not care about the womens game until the last 8-12 years. The rest of the world is still playing catch up. Argentina is a prime example, powerhouses in football but lacked interest in womens side.

@keewa US Women’s soccer proves the point with empirical data. We have something called title 9 which means for every male sport there must be equal number of female sports in primary schools. Women’s soccer was counter balance to our football so many schools lack mens soccer

The cool thing about being an American is we are blowing the world’s mind hosting a World Cup that we collectively don’t care about and did nothing to prepare for while our team whoops every country they come across. Oh, and soccer is like the 10th most popular sport in America. 🇺🇸

@attiep85 @secnumbersguy Cause MLS is just bad, you want the highest level, watch Champions League, not MLS. Champions League final draws more viewers than the Super Bowl. But you are really pushing MLS ratings, no wonder why you all are so ignorant.

@secnumbersguy Imagine getting community noted, lol. Only truth is most boomers and gen x have an attention span of a toddler, that's why they hate real football. They need to watch handegg with 5 hours of commercials so they can have time to eat 100 hotdogs and drink 50 beers to be happy.

@P4Gigis @AFC_Law @CookedbyRiley In that 2-1, there are 10-15 saves by elite keepers that look impossible, low blocks constantly hunting you covering every inch of space, counters that are lethal that only split sec decision define if it turns into a goal or missed opportunity, I can go on with the same energy

@Jpablo09 @AFC_Law @CookedbyRiley In that 14-7, there are about 12 3rd down conversions, 8 big plays over 20 yards, 40 1st downs, 5 or 6 big hits, 2 interceptions, and a couple sacks. American football is still based on explosive plays, & its action packed. Hockey would have been a better comparison.

You guys all know the World Cup knockouts aren’t 2 legs or best of 7 right? In either of those formats we have no chance vs a top country but get us to a QF at home vs a big boy and let’s see what happens on any given Sunday. We can hang! And if you can hang there’s a shot!
