People who don’t really understand football often ask: “Why do we even need offside? It’s a nightmare to referee and it keeps cancelling perfectly good goals.” But what would actually happen if the rule didn’t exist? The game would become much slower and far more defensive. Here’s why: the offside rule allows defenders to step up and turn large parts of the pitch into no-go zones for attackers. Without it, defenders would be forced to sit much deeper to avoid being constantly beaten in behind. The effective playing area would become significantly larger, the distances between the lines would increase, and high pressing would be much harder to execute. The paradox is that a rule which appears to restrict attackers is actually one of the main reasons modern football can be played so aggressively and offensively. @M300Wrex @wbetiago No, that's not true. To move heat out of the home, a very cold fluid expands, absorbing heat in the home, and then that fluid is pushed outside, and the heat is literally wrung out of it by the compressor. The compressor requires energy to work. It's basic thermodynamics.

Funny how the loudest “Canada is broken” voices keep coming from the provinces with the worst premiers running the show. Here’s the part people skip: your daily life is run by your province, not Ottawa. Healthcare, schools, hospitals, highways, policing, housing approvals, electricity rates. All provincial jurisdiction. The premier you voted for controls almost everything that actually touches your day to day. Alberta’s economy gets mismanaged by Smith, healthcare gets gutted, and somehow it’s Ottawa’s fault. Saskatchewan posts some of the worst outcomes on healthcare wait times and education funding in the country, then blames “the Laurentian elite.” These are the same people who vote for cuts, then complain when the cuts hurt. Vote for underfunded hospitals, then post about ER wait times like it’s a national betrayal. Vote against federal transfers and equalization fixes, then act shocked when their own province can’t deliver services. If your premier controls your hospital wait time, your kid’s classroom size, and your power bill, and all three are getting worse, that’s not a “Canada is broken” problem. That’s a “you elected this” problem. The data is right there. Most of the “Canada is failing” energy isn’t coming from a place of national decline. It’s coming from provincial governance failures, dressed up as a federal crisis.

@jmontforttx No one mentions the elephant in the room: ethnic purity. Until the migration madness, Nordic states were 95% the same race, religion, and language. Shared values allow a cohesive social safety net because trust is high. Migration erodes trust, which is why Canada's so bad now.

Funny, all the Nordic states have socialist policies that include free healthcare, free education, and strong safety nets. They are all ranked at the top for standard of living.

Gas right now in where I am SC is 3.25 a gallon convert to liters that is 85 cents USD a liter or times 1.4 = 1.20 a liter CAD. In most places in Canada thats 1.80 a liter.

There have always been things you couldn't get in Canada, like Heath Bars, and things you couldn't get in the US, like Coffee Crisp. The US has always had more variety, lower costs.

@RailroadRaccoon The whole thing is a ridiculous waste of money. In a few years, self driving cars will obviate the need for trains. Why spend an hour getting to Union an hour before the train leaves, 5 hours to Quebec, and another hour to your hotel (8 hrs total), vs a self drive car in 7 hrs?

Canada should improve services along the existing VIA corridor (slightly faster trains and more service) instead of spending additional billions of $$$ to divert the high speed rail line while making it slower to serve a small city lol.

People love saying: “Science has been wrong before.” Of course it has. That’s the whole point. Science in 2026 isn’t using the tools of 1950. We have better statistics. Better measurements. Better experiments. Better algorithms. Many studies from decades ago wouldn’t survive modern review. When science changes its mind, that’s not a failure. That’s science working. The real question isn’t: “Was science ever wrong?” It’s: “What other system gets more accurate by discovering its own mistakes?”
