Modern western progressivism is basically a form of secular protestantism, with a strong vein of Christian ethics running through it, however poorly applied I feel like there was something incredibly intense about materialistic ideologies when they first broke away from their Christian and/or aristocratic societies. Real communism and fascism have already been tried, and it wasn't popular

The progressive revolution failed faster and harder than communism did, and the rightist reaction failed faster and harder than nazism did. We're into the "sequels and remakes" era of ideological politics. Fortunately that means fewer people die this time.
