Increased intelligence leads to greater tension between your thoughts and the world around you. Many a smart men throughout history were deemed rather depressed at the end of their journey. If you choose to pursue intellect, you must learn to generate independent thought while remaining psychologically intact inside systems that reward reductive simplification. One must foster a certain stance toward reality; one that expects the shallow responses of others while not resenting their arrival. A greater resolution of thought reveals fractures the world prefers to smooth over. Be prepared for that.

When Orch OR was proposed 30 years ago everyone said ‘Orch’ is impossible. The brain is too warm, wet and noisy’ for functional quantum effects. Now: 1) 5 millisecond coherence has been shown in Anirban’s organic brain jelly. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108… 2) anesthesia acts to selectively block consciousness by quantum interactions with microtubules pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac… 3) other theories (GNW, IIT, etc) have found ZERO specific evidence and aren’t even falsifiable. (Can you name any?) OR is testable and will be proven or disproven. Larger objects are being put in superposition but the Penrose limit hasn’t yet been breached.
Martin N / 🌊 🧬 🌌@virakanda

But it does not have OR verified and this is a serious problem since OR is a core mechanism of Orch-OR. It does not matter how much evidence is mounted if all that evidence is not critical because only one experiment is necessary to reject Orch-OR by showing for instance that Spacetime does not follow gravitational collapse as predicted by OR. It would be more beneficial to the theory itself if the emphasis was on verification of OR - a very serious data weakness as of now.

We live in a society that denies biological realities, they behave like IQ is an unearned privilege that is a source of inequality that destroys the fabric of society. We do not have a paradigm for managing societies as large and as diverse as ours, we are all living in Plato's cave but our technology is casting terrifying shadows of nuclear fallout.

Great art can be interpreted to suit many philosophical frameworks of reality. Reducing humans to their identity as a biological organ feature and not living breathing agents and matter modifying super-beings diminishes our value as a species. If we keep on obsessing over copulative functions as primary identity means you see value only in pleasure seeking. The species flourishes when we refuse such reductions—whether they come from rigid biological constraints or socially imposed roles. We are more than our hardware defaults or any imposed simulation. That’s the invitation worth taking, across any philosophical lens the art supports. That was my takeaway from the Matrix, we are so much more than we think ourselves to be.

The Matrix is a trans allegory, according to director Lilly Wachowski, who said, “The world wasn’t ready. Everything in it is super trans,” pointing to Neo’s transformation from being Mr. Anderson. Keanu Reeves responded, “I didn’t know that. I think it’s cool.”

There is a concerted collective effort to prevent anyone from taking a principled stance on any topic? Everything must be viewed through a "shades of gray" stance so there is no absolute wrong or right. All is flux and we can call anything virtuous or villainous by context. Am I imagining things? We are in wishy washy idea hell. 😈

As another man who once worked with me declares himself saddened by my beliefs on gender and sex, I thought it might be useful to compile a list for handy reference. Which of the following do you imagine makes actors and directors who aren’t involved with the HBO reboot of Harry Potter so miserable? Is it my belief that women and girls should have their own public changing rooms and bathrooms? That women should retain female-only rape crisis centres? That men don’t belong in women’s sport? That female prisoners shouldn’t be incarcerated with violent men and male sex offenders? That women should remain a protected class in law, because they have sex-specific needs and issues? That language should reflect reality rather than ideological jargon, especially in a medical context? That women shouldn’t be harassed, persecuted or fired for refusing to pretend humans can change sex? That women should not be threatened with violence and rape when they assert their rights? That freedom of speech and belief are essential to a pluralistic democratic society? That troubled minors, especially those who are gay, autistic and trauma-experienced, should be given mental health support instead of irreversible surgeries and drug treatments on non-existent evidence of benefit? That gay people shouldn’t be pressured to include the opposite sex in their dating pools, nor should they be smeared as ‘genital fetishists’ when they don’t? That cross-dressing heterosexual male fetishists aren’t actually oppressed, but having the time of their lives piggybacking off gender identity ideology? That said ideology, and the privileged, blinkered fools pushing it because they suffer zero consequences themselves, have done more damage to the political left’s credibility than Trump and Farage could have achieved in a century? Let me have your thoughts.

@pmarca The lump of labor fallacy is real — but it assumes adaptation time. AI may compress that window so drastically that ‘a generation to adapt’ isn’t a reassurance, it’s the problem. The people displaced won’t be the ones who benefit. That’s not doomerism, that’s distribution.

AI employment doomerism is rooted in the socialist fallacy of lump of labor. It is wrong now for the same reason it’s always been wrong. More people really should try to learn about this. The AI will teach you about it if you ask! (Hinton is a socialist. youtube.com/shorts/R-b8RR6…)

It’s easy to dunk on Geoffrey Hinton for his 2016 declaration that it was “completely obvious” that radiologists would have no jobs within 5 years, while in fact, the number of radiologists has grown. But this prediction was more than a simple mistake. It’s a synedoche for the entire discourse of AI timelines and doom.
