This is a little frog pond in my pasture that must get fed by a seep. Its not big or deep but always has water in it. I have lived here 20 yrs. Only other time it has went dry was 11/12.

Had someone tell me once that conventional farmers don't care about the land. I asked him how long his family had farmed it. He didn't farm. The ground we're on has been in rotation for 6 generations. We don't care about the topsoil? We're going to be in that dirt long after the critics have moved on to the next cause.

The thing that drives me absolutely crazy are places like these that have no reason to exist as mowed lawn. Truly a waste of space that could be prairie.

Trump declaring the war over every time the market is predicted to tank is one of the stupidest strategies I've ever seen. Yet it has worked every single time so I can't even blame him at this point.

@gwiesefarms How many people have a friend from college with hundreds of thousands of dollars to put down on a piece of land and will be happy with a 2.5% return on their money?

Fred farms 6,000 acres which are all leased through many landlords. He is well known as a top-notch producer and regularly must turn down offers to rent acres from new and existing landlords as those farms don’t fit within his operational goals. For his first opportunity to buy out a small parcel from a landlord, he had the ability to make the entire purchase on his own. His understanding of the importance of cash to keep his risk levels down and how much cash is needed to scale the operation led him to pursue a different option. Instead of buying the entire property, he found a friend from college who ran his own business. These two bought the ground on 50% shares. The ability to bring in a like-minded investor and preserve cash will allow Fred to buy ground each time a landlord approaches him wanting to sell.

Corn still standing in the field North of Lucas Ks. I assumed it was in a pocket of drought and left it standing. Got over the hill and a combine was out in what looked like a freshly picked field. Different level take on store and ignore

One of the most prized possessions in our household hails from Ripon, Wisconsin. Manufactured there since 1908. I hope they are never hollowed out by private equity.

I'm getting really sick of the roads in Adams County Nebraska. It is getting dangerous for semis with the crown they are putting on the roads. It is BS when it lifts the trailer wheels off the ground at intersections, not to mention what it does to the trailer when full.

Went to an insurance meeting today. We shouldn’t be able to insure 95% of a crop. We need to be able to fail so we can actually succeed. To me, it looked like a great way to bid out every ounce of profit from the farm sector and concentrate production even more.
