Nice debate surrounding whether #deepbrain stimulation (DBS) folks with cognitive and other issues can be operated. Some back and forth on a paper in @MDJ_Journal and it reminds me of one of our most requested slides and articles on the DBS Fast Track Process. PLEASE USE A MULT-D TEAM FOR DBS SCREENING. Have the dialogue as it matters. No statistic or CHATGPT can make up for in person evaluations and discussions when considering the complex process of DBS screening. Here is a little of the back and forth from critics of recent article by Block. @DBSThinkTank @leaddbs @dbssocietyorg 'However, caution is needed in interpreting data about cognitively impaired patients, due to the risk of focusing our judgment mainly on motor outcome, forgetting the high rate of surgical side effects, suboptimal functional outcomes, and mid-to-long-term risk of cognitive worsening. Long-term studies with comprehensive neuropsychological and quality of life evaluations are needed to inform clinical practice standards.' …mentdisorders.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/md…
