@CynthiaMLummis How much do you own and will you completely divest before attempting this legislation? If not, then this is just loading more debt upon the federal government just to enrich yourself by backing your speculative position. Gross.

To be clear, the “strategic” purpose of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is to: explicitly, strategically, pay down gov’t debt hanging over the head of every American. Put future Americans on a better footing, unencumbered by debt that they never supported or benefitted from.

It’s a mistake to share thoughts like these, I realize, especially on a platform like this one has become. But it’s part of what preoccupies my thoughts, and not just over the past day.

I no longer feel like I belong in this country. On a deeply personal level, its values are no longer my values, as they once were. My persistence in it feels increasingly strange and unwelcome.

Be sure to thank your local poll workers! Vital that citizens serve this role in every community across the nation. Sadly, they’ve been under incredible pressure thanks to… well, you know. My thanks and my vote so we get back to a normal environment for them. #Election2024

@jimyoung2817 When one side is intentionally choosing to not govern, they aren’t a good faith problem solver. That’s where we are today. Their leader now calls anyone that doesn’t want him as POTUS again “the enemy within”. Not the same as disagreeing on *how* to govern.

@jimyoung2817 Deflection by them to blame “teams” for the past two years. Nothing more obvious than the border bill: bipartisan work - led by R senator - ready to be passed… then sabotaged by Trump b/c it would hurt fearmongering campaign. House Trumpers kill it. The People get nothing.

The govt spends what it WANTS. The govt taxes what it CAN. And the govt PRINTS the difference. No matter the difference. Everything else is just theatre to keep you blaming the OTHER team and rooting for YOUR team. Would be interesting to see Musk try to change that.

@jimyoung2817 Definitely impossible when one party has no interest in governing. Literal pride in making government not work. What we witnessed in the House the past two years has been ridiculous. So many deeply unserious people. Like what happened with the border bill.

@MichaelMarinus Only when incremental improvement will work. I’ve done the math. The plan is hard but doable. Alignment on the plan feels impossible right now. Ugh.

40 years ago today, Bruce Springsteen released his classic song “Born In The U.S.A.,” and judging the sales on July 4th this year, the 40th consecutive year of people not listening to the lyrics.

@jimyoung2817 There’s no easy fix, but incremental improvement is better than “blowing things up” with no plan. So easy to break things. So so so hard to rebuild them.

@jimyoung2817 Obviously no, but I know something that will make life definitively worse for everyone: intentionally undermining the full faith and credit of the United States. I can think of some people that would want nothing less. And sadly, they have lined up to back one of our two choices.

@jimyoung2817 Right. Best case is to make the runaway train grow less big. For the moment, at least. Their budget forecasting is sober and consistent. For people that claim to care about fiscal responsibility... there's a stark difference in our 2 choices next week.

@MichaelMarinus … would take some kind of radical quantum break from our spending commitments and that simply will not happen, full stop. Like Lyn Alden says:

@jimyoung2817 Sounds great but invent going to happen because Trump’s plan have INCREASES in spending and decreases in revenue. DJY proved he’s unmatched at blowing up spending and debt during his first term. Would Elon cut from the DoD/National Defense spending that fund his ventures?
Steven Dennis@StevenTDennis

You *could* cut $2T a year out of federal spending as Musk suggests, but from where? Most federal spending = Social Security, health care (Medicare, Medicaid, ACA), Defense, Veterans benefits and Interest. fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finan…
