I’m really not a jingoistic anti-China guy, but there is something grating about China boosters describing America as a “pedophile country” with “pedophile elites” when the PRC *objectively* has laxer laws against pedophilia and fewer legal protections for underage victims.

@DanteJeffe14617 @Empty_America The Newman Centers at Midwestern secular colleges may be more religious than some of these examples. Point is, there is a streak of Catholic religiosity in secular colleges that by far dwarfs the numbers in the great books schools.

@PureLandNation @Empty_America If you go to Boston College, Notre Dame, Villanova, Georgetown, Providence College, st John’s, there isn’t religious extremism from my experience. Maybe there are a few fringe kids, but these are just normal schools and many non-Catholics are at them.

One thing that we already see in Anglo-American Catholicism (for better or worse) is the centrality of the UNIVERSITY in Catholic life.
Young Catholics meet their spouses at Catholic colleges or the Campus Parish.
Going away to college is socially load-bearing.

Related to this, consider that we don't even know what the mature form of Anglo-American Catholicism is in a cultural sense. As WASP "mainline" protestants come back into union with the Catholic Church, they don't suddenly become cultural Italians, nor should they.

through the Newman Center at the affordable local public university is perfectly fine for that.

@wokshovel I agree to an extent, but Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sexual solicitation of a minor (almost certainly) wouldn’t be considered a crime under Chinese law. The fact that Epstein was a registered sex offender is because of how strict American law is compared to others.
