The most fascinating part of this clip is that Isra Hirsi does not describe activism as a choice. She describes it as destiny.
She calls herself the “child of refugees” and the “child of organizers,” and says protesting at Columbia “felt like it was in my destiny.”
She also explicitly places herself in the lineage of the 1968 Columbia activists, invoking the same “ancestors” whose movement fed some of the most radical currents of that era, including the Weather Underground.
That framing is even more striking in light of her recent trip to Cuba with The People’s Forum. Some of those same 1968 “ancestors” also traveled to Cuba, where their politics were sharpened further and where they built ties with the international far left. For decades, Cuba has served as a training ground and international meeting spot for some of America’s most radical activists, often deepening their commitments in the process.
I do not think Hirsi is consciously retracing that path, but it is striking to see history echo like this.

There’s a big ongoing debate about how much H-1Bs are paid compared to Americans that I think misses something really important. Borjas says the wage gap is large and negative (-14%), @InnovateEconomy says it’s small and negative (-5%) and @m_clem's new paper says it’s not statistically significant (-1%). But if H-1Bs were working as intended, shouldn’t the wage gap be large and positive? The "Prevailing Wage" system is intended to block ANY H-1Bs with a negative gap. It's clearly not doing its job. Even in the most optimistic paper of this debate, roughly half of H-1Bs get approved despite a negative wage gap. The Department of Labor just finished preparing a rule revising the Prevailing Wage regs, set to be published in Federal Register any day now. The admin has a huge opportunity here to fix the Prevailing Wage system: Simply calculate the individual's wage gap and deny their H-1B if they are negative. It would accomplish what Congress actually wanted Prevailing Wage requirements to do: prevent companies from undercutting Americans and reserve visas for those foreign workers who have truly rare and valuable skills.

How can he still not address the fact that the H-1B data is not remotely comparable to ACS data? It's why this analysis was never done previously. It's apples-to-oranges. Clemens even points this out in his paper, and Borjas doesn't even mention it.

At a median salary of $100k, $15k x 200 workers is real money ($3M) and just scales from there.

This Indian national entered the U.S. as a visitor but overstayed his welcome! Instead of respecting U.S. laws, he repeatedly broke them.

@JessicaV_CIS I have opined for many years that all green card holders have an expiration date, say ten years, that they either become citizens(and not dual)or return to their home country. Far too many are not invested in this country, but only in the largesse they can accumulate.

What???
Let's start from this basic truth of civilization: In any given rule, law, or benefit designed for one group, it will almost certainly harm or disadvantage someone else.
Ideally, we should aim for win-win arrangements.
Real-world example? Gentrification in the Bay Area. Tech wealth has made housing completely unaffordable for everyone outside the industry. Teachers, plumbers, nurses, mechanics — the essential workers who keep society running — now often commute hours each way (many from outer counties) just to clean houses, teach kids, fix cars, and serve the very people driving up the prices.
That's not revitalization — that's displacement with better marketing.
