NEW: The USS Gerald R. Ford is back in the Middle East, per 2 defense officials.
The Ford, which until recently was operating in the Eastern Mediterranean, transited the Suez Canal, along with 2 destroyers - USS Mahan and USS Winston S. Churchill - and is now in the Red Sea.

In 2004 I joined VFA-137 on a Westpac deployment. The senior LT’s had all participated in the opening of OIF during the squadron’s previous deployment. My FRS classmates went to squadrons that participated in OIF and OEF. I deployed for another Westpac in 2007.
