@GJtotheT @eleludemann why wouldn't you want to live 15 minutes away from essential services? in what upside down world is that a bad thing?

@eleludemann Yes they do - judge people on the results. You'll own nothing and be happy (and live in shoebox apartments in 15 min cities, relying on universal basic income, eat bugs and won't be allowed to travel)

Just wondering if the people who thought it was a good idea to stop exploring for oil and gas in NZ still think that way?

Got an early look at the new Denon 600 and it blows Sonos and HomePod out of the water. Full review coming, but it sounds incredible and is the most HomeKit speaker outside of Apple. Didn’t need their app, comes with HomeKit code, use as doorbell, intercom, AirPlay, and Siri

"Māori are disproportionately affected by rising fuel prices due to lower average incomes, geographic isolation, and limited access to public transport. For many whānau, fuel is not a discretionary expense but a "lifeline" required for survival" - Rawiri Waititi

Nationwide • In 2024, more than 3,300 offences were reported around public transport (in transit or at terminals), based on NZ Police data obtained via Official Information Act request. • This included 3,277 crimes against victims (a 6% increase from 2023), such as acts intended to cause injury (i.e., assaults), theft, and burglary. • Victimless crimes (e.g., public order offences, property damage, drugs) rose 14%. • Increases were noted in Auckland and Christchurch, while Wellington remained steady.

Wondering if the high cost of fuel means you should start getting public transport? This calculator I built will let you estimate how much you could save (or lose) on your commute at various petrol price points.

Playing around with bus prices v car commuting costs. If you: - Live close to town - Have free parking The bus will still cost more than driving, v peak snapper fares. It doesn't really get cheaper until zone 4 at $3.20/L

Even to zoomers New Zealand is unrecognisable to the one they grew up in. I can't imagine how alien this place feels to those born even a couple of decades earlier.

More people used public transport in Auckland yesterday than any day with the half price fares in 2023.

Lets get this right. Nicola Willis will not reduce the fuel excise tax to help NZders at the pump because rich households like hers and Chris Luxon don't need that kind of support.

@Liquid_Times The cost isn't the deciding factor. If it were purely about cost, they roads would already be empty and the buses full.

Why not make public transport free, even just as a temporary measure? Loads of talk about making petrol cheaper, but not much talk about encouraging the use of the public transport.

@Liquid_Times its already the cheeper option if fuel goes 3x the price over the rest of the year simply keeping the price locked where it is right now amounts to a further price cut
