Let's also not forget that the oil crises in the 1970s led to the rise of Thatcher/Reagan & the shift from post-war social democracy to neoliberalism.
In the 1970s, social democracy was failing, much the same as neoliberalism is failing today.

@VJMPub Yeah, compared to what neoliberalism has delivered for working class people, it was successful.
But there were issues around inflation & unemployment. Also, the young boomers wanted their 'freedom' (ie the hippies ruined it).
The neolibs exploited those crises effectively.

@Liquid_Times Not convinced that social democracy was failing in the 70s. Going by how easy it was for working families to own homes, I'd say it was very successful.
People might not have been grateful in the 70s, but that's something else.
